Fred Vasseur details Ferrari’s clear internal communication after Christian Horner rumours. Fred Vasseur has received full backing from Ferrari’s top management.

Fred Vasseur, Ferrari team boss 2025

Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur has faced questions about his future in recent weeks amid speculation linking the Scuderia with Christian Horner. The former Red Bull Racing boss, currently on gardening leave, is eligible to return to Formula 1 in 2026, and multiple teams have reportedly expressed interest in signing him. Rumours even suggest Christian Horner could consider establishing his own F1 team.

Despite widespread media chatter, there have been no official discussions between Ferrari and Horner. The speculation intensified following Ferrari’s disappointing results in the 2025 season and a perceived lack of confidence in Fred Vasseur’s leadership. The French team principal had previously made the strategic decision to pause development on the SF-25 mid-season, focusing instead on the 2026 regulations after upgrades failed to yield the desired performance improvements.

As Ferrari remains without a race win this season, pressure has mounted on Fred Vasseur to deliver results. Rumours of Christian Horner’s potential involvement have added an additional layer of scrutiny. Nevertheless, internal sources indicate that the Frenchman retains strong backing from Ferrari’s top management, demonstrating that his position at Maranello remains secure.

John Elkann delivers a clear message on Vasseur’s future amid Horner links

Vasseur has publicly expressed his frustration with the Horner speculation, describing it as a distracting element that could unsettle the team. While discussions about Horner remain purely speculative, the former Red Bull team principal has identified practical challenges that would complicate any potential move, including his lack of Italian language skills and the unlikelihood of Ferrari offering him a shareholding role, which he desires for his next project.

Fred Vasseur renewed his contract with Ferrari in July 2025, with Ferrari president John Elkann reaffirming his confidence in the Frenchman during a press conference. Speaking to Sky Italia after the United States Grand Prix, the French manager confirmed that the internal message about his future was unambiguous, reinforcing his authority and the team’s focus on the remainder of the season.

Fred Vasseur explained that while external rumours can be distracting, Ferrari’s leadership has provided clarity and support, allowing the team to concentrate on their objectives for the final five races of the season. He emphasized that the focus remains on securing second place in the constructors’ championship, a realistic goal given the team’s recent performances.

Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna praises team cohesion at COTA

The Scuderia enjoyed a strong weekend at the United States Grand Prix, with Charles Leclerc securing a podium finish in third, marking Ferrari’s first top-three result since Spa. Lewis Hamilton finished fourth, highlighting a positive team performance as Ferrari continues to battle Mercedes and Red Bull for second place in the constructors’ standings.

Ferrari chief executive officer Benedetto Vigna also commented on the team’s atmosphere in Austin, praising the unity and morale of the squad. He highlighted that when the team works cohesively, podium results naturally follow, and he expressed satisfaction with the collaborative effort that led to the strong weekend.

Vigna added that Formula 1 is a dynamic sport where circumstances can change rapidly, and it is crucial never to lose confidence. He reinforced that Ferrari’s recent performance demonstrates that with focus, belief, and teamwork, the team is capable of achieving significant results, even in a challenging season.

Overall, Ferrari appears determined to maintain stability within the team, with clear backing for Fred Vasseur, while continuing to address performance gaps and prepare strategically for the 2026 regulations. The management’s internal communication has made it clear that Fred Vasseur’s leadership remains central to the team’s long-term plans, despite ongoing media speculation linking Christian Horner to Maranello.
