14 July 1951: Ferrari’s first Formula 1 championship win
José Froilán González gave Ferrari its first World Championship Grand Prix victory at Silverstone, beating Juan Manuel Fangio’s Alfa Romeo in the 1951 British Grand Prix. Driving the Ferrari 375 F1, the Argentine established a landmark in the team’s early championship history.
Luigi Villoresi finished third, putting a second Ferrari on the podium. The result made 14 July a defining anniversary for the Scuderia: the date on which Ferrari became a Formula 1 World Championship race winner.

14 July 1956: Juan Manuel Fangio wins for Ferrari
Five years later, another British Grand Prix took place at Silverstone on the same calendar date. This time, Juan Manuel Fangio won for Ferrari, while Alfonso de Portago and Peter Collins shared the car classified second.
Shared drives were permitted in this period of Formula 1. That is why historical results can show two drivers credited with the same finishing position, and why a driver can appear more than once when competing in different cars during a race.
