Methodology: Grand Prix starts, points, constructor breakdowns and season summaries are calculated from locally processed F1DB race and Sprint results. Points use the same race-result definition across career, Ferrari, constructor and season views so the totals reconcile. Official season championship points are retained separately and noted where historical dropped-score rules create a difference. Career wins, podiums, poles and fastest laps use F1DB driver-level totals where available.

Sebastian Vettel Formula 1 career statistics

Sebastian Vettel competed in Formula 1 from 2007 until his retirement at the end of the 2022 season. His career included appearances for BMW Sauber, Toro Rosso, Red Bull, Ferrari and Aston Martin, spanning several different technical eras of the championship.

His complete Formula 1 record includes 299 Grand Prix starts, 53 victories, 122 podium finishes, 57 pole positions, 38 fastest laps and four Drivers’ World Championships. All four titles were won consecutively with Red Bull between 2010 and 2013.

Sebastian Vettel’s Formula 1 debut with BMW Sauber

Vettel made his Formula 1 race debut for BMW Sauber at the 2007 United States Grand Prix at Indianapolis. He finished eighth and scored a championship point on his first Grand Prix appearance.

His time as a BMW Sauber race driver lasted only one Grand Prix before his career continued with Toro Rosso later in the 2007 season. That move provided Vettel with his first opportunity to establish himself as a full-time Formula 1 driver.

Sebastian Vettel at Toro Rosso

Vettel joined Toro Rosso during the 2007 season and remained with the team throughout 2008. His breakthrough came at the 2008 Italian Grand Prix, where he took pole position and victory at Monza.

That result delivered both Vettel’s first Formula 1 victory and Toro Rosso’s first Grand Prix win, establishing him as one of the championship’s leading young drivers before his promotion to Red Bull for 2009.

Sebastian Vettel at Red Bull

Vettel joined Red Bull for the 2009 season and quickly became a regular race winner and championship contender. His six seasons with the team produced 38 victories, 65 podium finishes, 44 pole positions and all four of his Formula 1 World Championships.

The partnership transformed both Vettel and Red Bull into dominant forces during the early 2010s, culminating in four consecutive Drivers’ titles between 2010 and 2013.

Sebastian Vettel’s four Formula 1 World Championships

Vettel won his first Drivers’ World Championship in 2010 after a dramatic title fight that was decided at the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. He successfully defended the championship in 2011 before adding further titles in 2012 and 2013.

The four consecutive championships established the most successful period of Vettel’s Formula 1 career. His 2013 campaign was particularly notable for a run of nine consecutive Grand Prix victories to close the season.

Sebastian Vettel joins Ferrari

Vettel moved to Ferrari for the 2015 Formula 1 season after six years with Red Bull. He immediately became a regular podium contender and scored his first victory for the Scuderia at the Malaysian Grand Prix, only the second race of his Ferrari career.

He went on to win three races during his first Ferrari season, adding victories in Hungary and Singapore to his success in Malaysia and finishing the year third in the Drivers’ Championship.

Sebastian Vettel’s first Ferrari victory

Vettel’s first Ferrari victory came at the 2015 Malaysian Grand Prix at Sepang. Starting from the front row, he defeated the Mercedes drivers to deliver his first win in Ferrari colours.

The result was a major early milestone in his relationship with the Scuderia and began a Ferrari career that would eventually produce 14 Grand Prix victories over six seasons.

Sebastian Vettel Ferrari F1 statistics

Vettel made 118 official Grand Prix starts for Ferrari between 2015 and 2020. His record with the Scuderia includes 14 victories, 55 podium finishes, 12 pole positions and 14 fastest laps.

His strongest championship campaigns with Ferrari came in 2017 and 2018, when he finished runner-up in the Drivers’ standings on both occasions after competing against Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes for the title.

Sebastian Vettel’s 2017 Ferrari title challenge

The 2017 season represented Ferrari’s strongest sustained championship challenge of Vettel’s first three years with the team. He won the opening race in Australia and added victories in Bahrain, Monaco, Hungary and Brazil.

Vettel finished the season second in the Drivers’ Championship with 317 points. The campaign established Ferrari as a genuine title challenger after several seasons in which Mercedes had controlled the championship.

Sebastian Vettel’s 2018 Ferrari title challenge

Vettel again fought for the Drivers’ Championship in 2018, winning the opening two races in Australia and Bahrain before adding victories in Canada, Great Britain and Belgium.

He remained part of the title battle through much of the season but ultimately finished runner-up for a second consecutive year. The five victories recorded in 2018 matched his highest win total during a single Ferrari season.

Sebastian Vettel’s final Ferrari victory

Vettel’s 14th and final victory for Ferrari came at the 2019 Singapore Grand Prix. Starting third, he moved into contention through the pit-stop phase and went on to win ahead of Ferrari team-mate Charles Leclerc.

The result completed a Ferrari one-two and became Vettel’s 53rd and final Formula 1 victory. It was also his fifth career victory on the Marina Bay street circuit.

Sebastian Vettel’s final Ferrari seasons

Vettel remained with Ferrari through the 2019 and 2020 seasons. Charles Leclerc joined the team in 2019, giving Ferrari a new driver combination as Vettel entered the final stage of his time at Maranello.

The difficult 2020 campaign produced fewer opportunities for competitive results, but Vettel returned to the podium with third place at the Turkish Grand Prix. He left Ferrari at the end of that season after six years with the Scuderia.

Sebastian Vettel F1 career by constructor

Vettel’s Formula 1 career included five constructors: BMW Sauber, Toro Rosso, Red Bull, Ferrari and Aston Martin. The constructor breakdown above separates his results for each team rather than combining achievements from different stages of his career.

This distinction is especially important for Vettel because his four World Championships were achieved with Red Bull, while a substantial portion of his later race victories, podiums and pole positions came during his six seasons with Ferrari.

Sebastian Vettel wins, podiums and pole positions

Vettel finished his Formula 1 career with 53 Grand Prix victories, 122 podium finishes and 57 pole positions. Those results were accumulated between his 2007 debut and final season in 2022.

Fourteen of his victories came with Ferrari, while 38 were achieved with Red Bull and his first Formula 1 victory came with Toro Rosso at Monza in 2008.

Sebastian Vettel fastest laps

Vettel recorded 38 fastest laps during his Formula 1 career. Fourteen of those came during his six seasons as a Ferrari driver.

For a broader historical view of race fastest laps by driver and constructor, visit the F1 Fastest Laps & Race Performance Records database.

Sebastian Vettel season-by-season F1 statistics

The season-by-season table provides a chronological view of Vettel’s Formula 1 career from his 2007 debut through his final season in 2022. It separates his early BMW Sauber and Toro Rosso appearances, his championship-winning Red Bull years, his Ferrari period and his final seasons with Aston Martin.

Because Vettel is retired from Formula 1, these season records form a stable historical dataset and do not require regular race-by-race updates.

Sebastian Vettel at Aston Martin

After leaving Ferrari, Vettel joined Aston Martin for the 2021 Formula 1 season. He remained with the team for two years and added another podium finish to his career record with second place at the 2021 Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

His Aston Martin period formed the final chapter of a Formula 1 career that had begun 15 years earlier with BMW Sauber.

Sebastian Vettel’s final Formula 1 season

Vettel announced during the 2022 season that he would retire from Formula 1 at the end of the year. His final Grand Prix appearance came at Abu Dhabi, where he completed his 299th official Formula 1 race start.

He ended his career with four World Championships, 53 victories, 122 podiums and 57 pole positions, having competed for five different constructors.

Sebastian Vettel’s place in Ferrari history

Vettel’s six-year Ferrari career represents one of the Scuderia’s most significant driver partnerships of the modern era. Between 2015 and 2020 he won 14 Grands Prix for Ferrari and twice finished runner-up in the Drivers’ World Championship.

His time at Maranello included victories at circuits such as Monaco, Spa-Francorchamps, Silverstone, Singapore, Interlagos and the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, as well as sustained championship battles during the 2017 and 2018 seasons.

Although Vettel’s four World Championships were achieved before he joined Ferrari, his 118 starts, 14 victories and 55 podium finishes for the Scuderia form a substantial part of his overall Formula 1 record.

Sebastian Vettel circuit records

Vettel recorded victories at many of Formula 1’s major circuits during his career and was particularly successful at venues including Singapore, Suzuka and the Buddh International Circuit.

How Sebastian Vettel’s F1 records are calculated

The statistics on this page are generated from locally processed historical Formula 1 data. Career totals, constructor records, Ferrari-specific results and season-by-season statistics are calculated separately so that results achieved for BMW Sauber, Toro Rosso, Red Bull, Ferrari and Aston Martin remain correctly attributed.

Race entries and race starts are also treated separately. Vettel was entered in 119 Grands Prix during his Ferrari career but officially started 118 of them because he did not start the 2016 Bahrain Grand Prix after his car suffered a technical problem on the formation lap.

Because Vettel’s Formula 1 career is complete, his statistics are effectively evergreen and would change only if historical data were corrected or expanded.
