Methodology: Grand Prix starts, points, constructor breakdowns and season summaries are calculated from locally processed F1DB race and Sprint results. Points use the same race-result definition across career, Ferrari, constructor and season views so the totals reconcile. Official season championship points are retained separately and noted where historical dropped-score rules create a difference. Career wins, podiums, poles and fastest laps use F1DB driver-level totals where available.

Jean Alesi Formula 1 career statistics

Jean Alesi competed in Formula 1 from 1989 through 2001. His career included Tyrrell, Ferrari, Benetton, Sauber, Prost and Jordan, spanning more than a decade of major technical and sporting change in the championship.

His complete Formula 1 record includes 201 official Grand Prix starts, one victory, 32 podium finishes, two pole positions, four fastest laps and 241 World Championship points.

Jean Alesi’s Formula 1 debut with Tyrrell

Alesi made his Formula 1 debut with Tyrrell at the 1989 French Grand Prix at Paul Ricard. Despite starting only 16th, he finished fourth and immediately scored three championship points.

The performance introduced Alesi as one of Formula 1’s most promising young drivers while he was still competing in International Formula 3000, a championship he would win later that year.

Jean Alesi’s first Formula 1 season

Alesi made eight Formula 1 starts for Tyrrell during the second half of the 1989 season. He scored points on three occasions and finished ninth in the Drivers’ Championship despite contesting only half of the campaign.

His performances earned him a full-time Tyrrell seat for 1990 and quickly placed him on the radar of Formula 1’s leading teams.

Jean Alesi’s 1990 Tyrrell season

Alesi’s first full Formula 1 campaign produced two podium finishes and several performances that established his reputation as an aggressive and committed racer.

He finished second at both the United States Grand Prix in Phoenix and the Monaco Grand Prix, scoring 13 points during the season and finishing ninth in the Drivers’ Championship.

Jean Alesi and Ayrton Senna at Phoenix

The 1990 United States Grand Prix became one of the defining races of Alesi’s early Formula 1 career. Starting fourth in the Tyrrell, he took the lead at the beginning of the race and fought Ayrton Senna directly for first position.

Senna eventually secured victory for McLaren, but Alesi finished second and demonstrated that he could compete against the established leaders of Formula 1.

Jean Alesi joins Ferrari

Alesi joined Ferrari for the 1991 Formula 1 season and became Alain Prost’s team-mate. His first Grand Prix start for the Scuderia came at the season-opening United States Grand Prix in Phoenix.

The move began a five-season Ferrari relationship that would account for the largest single portion of Alesi’s Formula 1 career.

Jean Alesi’s first Ferrari season

Alesi made 16 Grand Prix starts for Ferrari during 1991 and recorded three podium finishes. He finished third at Monaco, Germany and Portugal and scored 21 championship points.

He also recorded the first fastest lap of his Formula 1 career during his Ferrari debut at the United States Grand Prix in Phoenix.

Jean Alesi’s first Ferrari podium

Alesi’s first podium as a Ferrari driver came at the 1991 Monaco Grand Prix. He finished third behind Ayrton Senna and Nigel Mansell.

The result was his third Formula 1 podium overall and began a Ferrari podium record that would eventually reach 16 top-three finishes.

Jean Alesi’s 1992 Ferrari season

The 1992 season was difficult for Ferrari as the team struggled to match the leading Williams, McLaren and Benetton machinery.

Alesi nevertheless recorded two podium finishes and scored 18 points across 16 starts, ending the season seventh in the Drivers’ Championship.

Jean Alesi’s 1993 Ferrari season

Alesi remained with Ferrari for 1993 as Gerhard Berger returned to Maranello for a second spell with the Scuderia.

The season again produced two podium finishes for Alesi, while Ferrari continued working to rebuild its competitiveness after several difficult campaigns.

Jean Alesi and Gerhard Berger at Ferrari

Alesi and Gerhard Berger formed Ferrari’s driver partnership from 1993 through 1995. The pairing became an important part of the Scuderia’s transition from the difficult early 1990s towards a return to regular podiums and race victories.

Both drivers contributed significant results during the period, with Berger ending Ferrari’s long victory drought at Hockenheim in 1994 and Alesi adding his own Grand Prix victory the following season.

Jean Alesi’s 1994 Ferrari season

The 1994 season produced Alesi’s strongest Ferrari campaign to that point. He recorded four podium finishes and secured the first pole position of his Formula 1 career.

Alesi missed two Grands Prix during the season while recovering from injuries sustained in a testing accident, leaving him with 14 official starts from the 16-round championship.

Jean Alesi takes pole position at Monza

Alesi secured pole position for the 1994 Italian Grand Prix at Monza, giving Ferrari the leading grid position at its home race.

It was Alesi’s first Formula 1 pole position and his only pole during five seasons with Ferrari.

Jean Alesi’s 1994 Italian Grand Prix

Alesi led the opening phase of the 1994 Italian Grand Prix after starting from pole position. His opportunity to fight for victory ended following a technical problem during the race.

The weekend nevertheless remained one of the strongest qualifying performances of his Ferrari career and demonstrated the progress made by the Scuderia during 1994.

Jean Alesi’s 1995 Ferrari season

Alesi entered his fifth Ferrari season in 1995 and produced the most successful campaign of his time with the team in terms of championship points.

He recorded five podium finishes, scored 42 points and finally secured the first Formula 1 victory of his career at the Canadian Grand Prix.

Jean Alesi wins the 1995 Canadian Grand Prix

Alesi’s only Formula 1 victory came at the 1995 Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal. Driving Ferrari number 27, he started fifth and moved into contention as the race developed.

After problems affected several rivals, Alesi took the lead and completed 69 laps to secure victory ahead of Rubens Barrichello and Eddie Irvine.

Jean Alesi wins on his birthday

The Canadian Grand Prix took place on 11 June 1995, Alesi’s 31st birthday. His maiden Formula 1 victory therefore arrived on the same day as his birthday and during his fifth season as a Ferrari driver.

The Montreal victory became the defining statistical achievement of Alesi’s Formula 1 career and his only Grand Prix win from 201 official starts.

Jean Alesi and Ferrari number 27

Alesi became strongly associated with Ferrari’s number 27 during his years with the Scuderia. The number already held a significant place in Ferrari history through its association with Gilles Villeneuve.

Alesi carried number 27 to victory at the 1995 Canadian Grand Prix at the circuit named after Villeneuve, adding another distinctive connection between the number, Ferrari and Montreal.

Jean Alesi’s final Ferrari victory

Because Montreal in 1995 was Alesi’s only Formula 1 victory, it was simultaneously his first and final Grand Prix win for Ferrari.

He continued to compete for the Scuderia through the remainder of the season and added further podium finishes before leaving Ferrari at the end of 1995.

Jean Alesi Ferrari F1 statistics

Alesi made 79 official Grand Prix starts for Ferrari between 1991 and 1995. His Ferrari record includes one victory, 16 podium finishes, one pole position, two fastest laps and 121 championship points.

His five Ferrari seasons produced 21 points in 1991, 18 in 1992, 16 in 1993, 24 in 1994 and 42 in 1995, giving a total of 121 points.

Jean Alesi’s Ferrari podiums

Alesi recorded 16 podium finishes during his five seasons with Ferrari. His yearly totals were three podiums in 1991, two in 1992, two in 1993, four in 1994 and five in 1995.

Exactly half of Alesi’s 32 career Formula 1 podium finishes therefore came while driving for the Scuderia.

Jean Alesi’s Ferrari pole position

Alesi recorded one pole position during his Ferrari career, at the 1994 Italian Grand Prix at Monza.

His second and final Formula 1 pole position came later in his career with Benetton, also at Monza, during the 1997 Italian Grand Prix.

Jean Alesi fastest laps

Alesi recorded four fastest laps during his Formula 1 career. Two came with Ferrari: the 1991 United States Grand Prix at Phoenix and the 1995 Monaco Grand Prix.

His remaining two fastest laps were achieved with Benetton during the 1996 season.

For a broader historical view of race fastest laps by driver and constructor, visit the F1 Fastest Laps & Race Performance Records database.

Jean Alesi’s final Ferrari season

The 1995 season became Alesi’s fifth and final campaign with Ferrari. In addition to his Canadian Grand Prix victory, he recorded four other podium finishes and scored 42 points.

His final Grand Prix start for the Scuderia came at the 1995 Australian Grand Prix in Adelaide before both Alesi and Gerhard Berger moved to Benetton for the following season.

Jean Alesi joins Benetton

Alesi joined Benetton for the 1996 Formula 1 season alongside Gerhard Berger. The defending Constructors’ Champions remained competitive, allowing Alesi to accumulate regular podium finishes.

He recorded eight podiums in 1996 and another five in 1997, giving him 13 podium finishes during his two seasons with Benetton.

Jean Alesi’s strongest championship results

Alesi finished fourth in the Drivers’ Championship during both of his seasons with Benetton. Those results represented his highest final championship positions in Formula 1.

Although he did not win another Grand Prix, the two Benetton seasons substantially increased his career podium and points totals.

Jean Alesi at Sauber

Alesi moved to Sauber for the 1998 Formula 1 season and remained with the Swiss team through 1999.

His first Sauber season produced another podium finish, adding the final top-three result of his Formula 1 career.

Jean Alesi joins Prost

Alesi joined Alain Prost’s Formula 1 team for the 2000 season. The campaign proved extremely difficult, with the team failing to score a championship point during the year.

Alesi remained with Prost for the first part of the 2001 season before making one final team change during his final Formula 1 campaign.

Jean Alesi’s final Formula 1 races with Jordan

Alesi joined Jordan during the second half of the 2001 season and made five Grand Prix starts for the team.

His final Formula 1 appearance came at the 2001 Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka, closing a career that had begun 12 years earlier at Paul Ricard.

Jean Alesi F1 career by constructor

Alesi’s Formula 1 career included Tyrrell, Ferrari, Benetton, Sauber, Prost and Jordan. The constructor table above separates the statistics from each stage of his career.

His 201 official starts consisted of 23 with Tyrrell, 79 with Ferrari, 33 with Benetton, 32 with Sauber, 29 with Prost and five with Jordan.

Jean Alesi wins, podiums and pole positions

Alesi completed his Formula 1 career with one Grand Prix victory, 32 podium finishes and two pole positions.

Ferrari accounted for his only victory, 16 of his 32 podiums and one of his two pole positions, making the Scuderia the constructor most closely associated with his major Formula 1 achievements.

Why Jean Alesi has 201 starts but 202 entries

Alesi was entered in 202 Formula 1 World Championship Grands Prix but officially started 201. The difference occurred during his Tyrrell period rather than his Ferrari career.

At the 1990 Japanese Grand Prix, Alesi was entered and qualified but did not start the race. His Ferrari record does not contain an entries-versus-starts discrepancy: all 79 Ferrari entries became official Grand Prix starts.

Jean Alesi season-by-season F1 statistics

The season-by-season table provides a chronological view of Alesi’s Formula 1 career from his Tyrrell debut in 1989 through his final Jordan appearances in 2001.

It separates his early Tyrrell period, five Ferrari seasons, two campaigns with Benetton, subsequent years with Sauber and Prost and the final races of his career with Jordan.

Jean Alesi’s place in Ferrari history

Alesi occupies a distinctive place in Ferrari’s modern Formula 1 history despite winning only one Grand Prix. His five consecutive seasons with the Scuderia covered a difficult transitional period during which Ferrari gradually returned to regular race-winning contention.

His Ferrari record includes 79 starts, one victory, 16 podium finishes, one pole position and two fastest laps.

The 1995 Canadian Grand Prix remains the defining result of his Ferrari career, combining his only Formula 1 victory with his birthday and one of the most memorable Ferrari successes of the mid-1990s.

Jean Alesi circuit records

Alesi’s only Formula 1 victory came at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, while his podium record included strong performances at Monaco, Monza, Hockenheim, Silverstone and several other major Formula 1 venues.

How Jean Alesi’s F1 records are calculated

The statistics on this page are generated from locally processed historical Formula 1 data. Career totals, constructor records, Ferrari-specific results and season-by-season statistics are calculated separately so that Alesi’s achievements with Tyrrell, Ferrari, Benetton, Sauber, Prost and Jordan remain correctly attributed.

Race entries and official Grand Prix starts are treated separately. Alesi had 202 Formula 1 entries but 201 official starts, while all 79 of his Ferrari entries resulted in official starts.

Points are calculated from the results actually awarded in each Grand Prix so that career, constructor and season totals remain mathematically consistent.
