Ferrari’s team principal, Frederic Vasseur, has confirmed the intention to renew Carlos Sainz’s contract, which expires at the end of the 2024 Formula 1 campaign, and that negotiations with his management will take place before the end of the current season. Just like Charles Leclerc’s contract, Carlos Sainz’s contract will also conclude at the end of the next championship, with some rumors emerging in recent days regarding the possibility of the Spaniard moving to Sauber in 2025.
Vasseur confirms: negotiations for Sainz’s renewal at Ferrari will start before the end of the season
“With Carlos, we are completely aligned,” the head of the Prancing Horse told the media, regarding the contractual situation of the Spanish driver. “We always receive the same question and we always give the same answer. We have time to discuss, and 18 months ahead of us. Both of us want to start next season with a clear situation. This means we have to act and decide before the end of this season.” – the French manager explained in a recent interview with the Italian media, just a few days ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix.
While Charles Leclerc’s contract renewal seems to be already settled (according to rumors from recent weeks), no hints have emerged regarding negotiations for the extension of the Spaniard’s contract, at least for now.
Carlos Sainz himself had recently stated that he doesn’t want to enter the next season without knowing his future. Ferrari will have time until Abu Dhabi to define the future together with the Spanish driver, who, through his entourage, has reiterated his desire to stay in Maranello.

“We still have four months ahead of us to decide,” Fred Vasseur continues. “We are fully in line on this point with Carlos and his management, and we will discuss it soon.” – the Ferrari team principal concluded.
Despite a few sparks, the relationship between Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz has always been solid and collaborative. Therefore, the Maranello-based team has no intention of altering the driver lineup. However, they will need to sit down and precisely define the terms and duration of the agreement with the Spaniard.
