With his contract set to expire at the end of the 2024 Formula One season, Scuderia Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz has expressed his preference to know his future with the Maranello team by the end of the championship or at the latest by the beginning of next year. The Spaniard has been a “victim” of recent transfer market rumors that had Lewis Hamilton taking his seat at the Italian side. However, the rumors have been promptly denied by all parties involved.
Carlos Sainz’s contract expires in 2024: the Spaniard demands clarity about his future at Ferrari by year-end
“Obviously, I don’t want to reveal what my strategies are in terms of contract negotiations because it’s something I never disclose,” the Ferrari man said in Monaco regarding his contractual situation.
“But if you have listened to me in past interviews, I have always said that I like to go into an Formula 1 season knowing where I will be racing the following year because I experienced that with Renault, and I didn’t like it at all. Not necessarily this year, but before the start of next year or during the beginning of next year. All planned, that would be the goal.” – the Spanish driver pointed out.
The former McLaren driver joined the Italian side in 2021 after performing well with the Woking team. His performances over the past three years have had ups and downs, showing that he is rarely at the level of his teammate Charles Leclerc, neither in qualifying nor in the race.

Carlos Sainz’s contract will expire in 2024, and there have been several rumors recently about a possible replacement by Lewis Hamilton in the number 55 car. When asked if he had discussed these rumors with Frederic Vasseur, Carlos Sainz replied, “Honestly, no, because in the end, I feel like I don’t need to. I know that at this time of the year, there are always these kinds of rumors. It’s the silly season.”
“A week and a half ago, you had me going to Audi, a week ago Charles was going to Mercedes, now Lewis is coming to Ferrari. It’s the story of our lives at this time of the year. I’ve been in Formula 1 long enough, more than eight years, to know that it’s that time of the year.” – the Spaniard added.
In conclusion, Carlos Sainz adds: “There was a time when I used to read the media a lot, try to find out more. Now, I prefer to focus on my Monaco weekend, and I don’t care about what others say or do. I concentrate on myself, and in the past, it has always worked out well for me.” – the Ferrari driver explained.
