Ferrari confident about 2024 F1 season: what will change for next year. What will change for next year.

There’s a wind of change blowing at Scuderia Ferrari after a 2023 Formula One season that fell short of pre-season expectations. In an interview with the Italian media, Frédéric Vasseur addressed questions about the 2024 car and seemed to be very confident about the project that is being developed at Ferrari.

“The project for the 2024 car is a different project. We’ll have some carryover from this year’s car, but the project will be completely different,” explained Fred Vasseur in a recent interview ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix. “Some teams will still use this year’s gearbox and chassis, but we won’t.” Therefore, the 2024 Ferrari is likely to have significantly different forms from the current one. A new chassis and gearbox will allow for a reconfiguration of internal masses and changes in geometries to improve both internal and external aerodynamics.

Fred Vasseur explained that Ferrari is working to make advancements in various areas rather than just focusing on a single aspect of the car. “Certainly, we will try to improve, but I’m not sure there’s something to ‘unlock’ on the car to take a step forward,” the Team Principal explained. “I believe we need to improve a little bit everywhere, not just in one area. We’re talking about tenths, not seconds. This season, we’ve been competitive with Red Bull in qualifying, which means the car’s potential is there. We need to understand why we’re less competitive in the race and try to improve in those conditions, but I’m not sure it’s all about the car’s concept.” – the French manager added.

There’s a lot of confidence within Ferrari regarding the new project, and Fred Vasseur also seems optimistic for the upcoming season: “I’m confident because in a football game, you can win on one Sunday and lose on the next. We’re trying to figure out where we haven’t done a perfect job, where we can improve, and how to improve.” – he continued.

The Team Principal also praised the Maranello team’s efforts: “I think the team’s reaction from the start of the season has been good. Jeddah, for instance, was very tough for us, but we reacted well, pushing everyone in the same direction. We’re aware that with the regulations and the cost cap, it’s not easy to change things completely during the season. Initially, we were behind Aston Martin, and now we’re generally ahead of them. We’ve had a good reaction in recent months, but the most important thing is the team’s spirit.” – the Frenchman said.

Indeed, the spirit at Ferrari seems to be on the right track even for 2024, and Fred Vasseur hopes that this momentum can continue. “The motivation and attitude of every single member of the team are right. We have to keep pushing and evolving the car with this attitude and avoiding internal conflicts.”
