It will be the third time that young Robert Shwartzman will take part in a Formula 1 session. After the free practices for the United States and Abu Dhabi GPs last year, the reserve driver for the Prancing Horse will have a chance to test the SF-23 at the Zandvoort circuit located in the dunes north of Zandvoort, the Netherlands, near the North Sea coast line. Giving up his seat, or rather, the steering wheel, will be Carlos Sainz.
No issue for the Spanish driver, but simply the intention to provide Robert Shwartzman with some mileage in accordance with the Regulations. The Federation, in fact, requires teams to involve their reserve drivers in at least two sessions during the season. So, it’s very likely that Robert will be called up again in one of the upcoming weekends, this time in place of Charles Leclerc.
The young driver with Israeli citizenship has been part of the Ferrari Driver Academy since 2017. In his résumé, he can boast winning the Toyota Racing Series, as well as the F3 Championship, and a second place in the overall Formula 2 standings.
Despite his good results, there don’t seem to be available seats for Robert in Formula 1 at the moment. Therefore, Ferrari has chosen to appoint him as a reserve driver. Alongside his commitment in open-wheel racing, Robert Shwartzman also participates in the GT World Challenge. The Israeli driver is, in fact, engaged in the endurance championship driving a Ferrari 296 GTE managed by AF Corse.
