The 2024 F1 season has just ended, but many are already looking ahead to 2025 and the winter tests scheduled to take place in Bahrain before the season opener in Australia. Post-season nostalgia quickly sparks fans’ curiosity about how long they will have to wait to see the cars back on track.
Additionally, the upcoming season promises significant changes. Lewis Hamilton will make his debut with Ferrari, while Kimi Antonelli will join Mercedes for his rookie F1 season. Indeed, there are many novelties on the horizon for next year.
When and where are the 2025 F1 tests?
The driver line-up will look quite different from the current one, and fans of the pinnacle of motorsport are already buzzing with excitement for the new season. The first glimpses of change will come during the usual pre-season tests.
Formula 1 has already announced the dates for the 2025 tests, which will be held from February 26 to February 28 once again at the Sakhir circuit in Bahrain. In recent years, the tests have been conducted at the Manama circuit, which has also hosted the season’s first race.
Why will the 2025 F1 tests take place in Bahrain and not in Australia?
For 2025, the calendar lists Melbourne as the opening race. Nevertheless, the tests will be held in Bahrain due to the impossibility of conducting them on the same track as the season opener. F1 officials considered using the Barcelona circuit for the tests, which is likely to be employed for the 2026 season.
For 2025, however, the choice ultimately fell on Bahrain for two main reasons. The first is the mild climate, which minimizes the risk of canceling tests due to weather conditions. The second is the track layout, which reduces the likelihood of damage from off-track incidents.
In summary, while it is undoubtedly a costly decision, it has gained unanimous approval from teams and industry professionals.
