Damon Hill has spoken about what Carlos Sainz’s future might look like after he leaves Scuderia Ferrari at the end of the current championship.
Despite having to skip the Saudi Arabia weekend due to appendicitis, Carlos Sainz has had a great start to the season, which is the best business card possible for his future.
The Spanish driver, in fact, after the announcement of Lewis Hamilton’s arrival at Ferrari, found himself having to look for a seat for the 2025 Formula One season. Many thought there could be an agreement with the Prancing Horse even for the next season, with a possible move to Audi starting from 2026.
Fred Vasseur‘s choice to focus on the seven-time world champion instead reversed the situation, with Carlos Sainz’s entourage immediately working to find an agreement with another team. The options on the table for number 55 seem to be many, and many believe that the announcement of his move to Mercedes is now close.
Damon Hill rules out a top team from the race
Asked about the issue, Damon Hill spoke about what Carlos Sainz’s options for the future might be. “It would be sad if he couldn’t get a contract with a top team for next year,” said the former driver. “He deserves it for how he’s driving.”
Damon Hill then analyzed the options offered by the market. “What does he have available? Surely Mercedes would be the most obvious choice. I feel, however, that Red Bull is out of the question since Max is there, it would never work since the team is practically run by the Verstappen family.”

“The only chance he would have to go to Red Bull is if he were willing to accept the role of second driver. I don’t know if he would agree, and then Perez is doing very well this season,” Damon Hill concluded.
