The Montmeló weekend at the 4.657-kilometre Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya will be one to watch closely. In fact, the new technical directive will debut in Barcelona, and fans are eager to see which among Ferrari, McLaren, and Red Bull will benefit the most from it.
On top of that, at Monaco and Imola, the team led by Andrea Stella was not as dominant as it had been on other weekends. In the streets of the Principality, Lando Norris had to deal with a Charles Leclerc capable of putting him under pressure for the entire race, only to give up hopes of victory a few laps from the end.
The same happened at the event on the circuit dedicated to Enzo and Dino Ferrari, with Verstappen managing to bring home the win after a superb overtake at the start.
Andrea Stella worried about rival teams
For this reason, and considering the characteristics of the Catalan circuit, the Team Principal of the papaya team fears that the outcome in Barcelona may be less predictable than expected. “Certainly the victory in Monte Carlo brings us to Spain with a lot of enthusiasm. Montmeló is a tricky circuit, with many high-speed corners that don’t suit the characteristics of the MCL39 very well. I also expect several teams to enter the fight for victory, making the race very intense,” Andrea Stella said on the eve of the Spanish weekend.
He may have been referring to Ferrari, which also proved to be very competitive in fast sections at Monte Carlo. Will the Maranello outfit manage to secure its first win of the year? Of course, it will be necessary to wait for the first free practice sessions to get an idea. However, the feeling is that the arrival of the new technical directive could make the second half of the season less predictable than expected.
