Charles Leclerc’s comments
On the eve of his home Grand Prix in Monaco, Charles Leclerc took part in several media sessions, including one reserved for local and French outlets. L’Équipe, Monaco Matin, and Monaco Tribune interviewed the Ferrari driver, who, among other topics, also spoke about his new teammate Lewis Hamilton—his third teammate at Ferrari after Sebastian Vettel and Carlos Sainz.
At the beginning of the 2025 Formula 1 season, Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton initially stated that they had similar driving styles, but after a few races, the ‘extreme’ setups used by Charles Leclerc led Lewis Hamilton to admit that he couldn’t follow the Monegasque’s approach to extracting the maximum from the Ferrari SF-25.
Charles Leclerc, however, reiterated that looking to the future, Ferrari knows it can design cars with a ‘compatible’ DNA that suits both his and Lewis Hamilton’s driving styles because—setups aside—their core preferences are aligned. “We drive in a rather similar way; we both like to be aggressive on corner entry, going in hard. It’s good to have that trait in common because it gives Ferrari a clear direction that both of us are pushing toward,” Leclerc said.
During these months as teammates, Charles Leclerc has already learned a lot from an experienced driver like Hamilton: “In terms of driving, there are some tricks I’ve noticed and already applied during certain phases of the race when they’re useful,” Charles Leclerc added. “It’s also very interesting to listen to his discussions with the engineers, the kind of input he gives on setup and car configurations. Beyond the on-track aspects, he’s truly a ‘master’ when it comes to handling the crazy life we lead as drivers. I’ve realized over the years how valuable it is to be surrounded by the right people, to have an organization around you that frees up your time and lets you focus on your work when you’re behind the wheel. Lewis’s organization is exceptional, both in terms of being a driver and outside of Formula 1.” – the Monegasque driver concluded.
