A small oversight costs McLaren the great opportunity to start from the second and third positions behind Verstappen in the Emilia-Romagna GP. On Friday, it was not certain that Max Verstappen would be able to get pole, and the fact that he managed to position himself ahead of the two McLarens, achieving his 8th consecutive pole position, a result that ties him with Ayrton Senna’s record, with a time of 1’14”746, is certainly commendable given the difficulties encountered.
Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris showed competitiveness throughout the weekend and would have started from the second and third positions respectively if only the Australian driver and his mechanics had not made that small oversight, obstructing Kevin Magnussen (Haas) during his fast lap in the final stages of Q1. The impeding incident cost him three positions, confirmed by the FIA, dropping him from the second to the fifth spot on the grid, placing him behind the Ferrari cars of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz.
Given the penalty assigned to the Australian from McLaren, we can only provide you with the final starting grid, reminding you that the formation lap of the race is scheduled for Sunday afternoon:
