Luigi Mazzola: “I believe the team lacks…”
Luigi Mazzola stated, “I have always wanted to remain consistent with what I say, and I echo the words of former president Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, who said the team lacks leadership. I would say that Ferrari is missing technical leadership. Without a unified direction, which should be aimed at building a winning car, the team risks working in conflicting ways—one part goes in one direction while another follows a different path, or at least there is no coherence toward a single vision. It is clear that leadership is missing. In my opinion, this absence is particularly evident from a technical perspective. Technicians have come and gone, but what we are lacking is still not present. There is a lack of something that provides this guidance, and I am concerned about this year as well, because major mistakes can happen given this deficiency.” These were Luigi Mazzola’s words during the latest episode of Race Anatomy.
Luigi Mazzola’s thoughts leave little room for interpretation, but they highlight a crucial point: Ferrari lacks technical leadership, someone capable of coordinating work effectively and ensuring it is done correctly. Fans and experts alike can only agree, considering Ferrari has not won a championship in eighteen years. Over this period, the team has rarely been able to build a truly competitive car. Without this critical piece, achieving consistent results in Formula 1 is exceedingly difficult.
Therefore, concerns about next year are entirely justified. While the upcoming changes represent a major opportunity, Ferrari’s technical organization remains largely the same. It will fall to Frédéric Vasseur to demonstrate that things have truly changed, and in this context, the 2025 Formula 1 season does little to inspire confidence in a smooth path forward.
