Following the conclusion of the Formula 1 British Grand Prix held at Silverstone, engineer Luigi Mazzola shared his thoughts on the uncertain future of Frédéric Vasseur in his current role as Team Principal of Scuderia Ferrari. His comments were made during the Sky Sport F1 broadcast of Race Anatomy, where he offered a detailed and critical analysis of the situation unfolding within the Italian racing team.
Luigi Mazzola’s comments
Engineer Luigi Mazzola, who has years of experience in Formula 1 and particularly within Scuderia Ferrari, began by raising doubts: “Will Frédéric Vasseur stay in charge? Honestly, the recent statement from Benedetto Vigna, Ferrari’s Chief Executive Officer, where he said ‘there is time’, has left me very perplexed.”
According to Luigi Mazzola, “You cannot question a team principal as a person, but you can certainly evaluate and criticize his work. That is what Ferrari will need to assess in the near future.”
He continued by stating, “In the end, it does not matter whether the team principal is person A, B, or C. What truly matters is the value that person brings to the team in terms of recruiting talented personnel, managing skilled engineers, motivating the drivers, fostering team spirit, building a cohesive group, and maintaining a strong internal presence within the organization.”
Luigi Mazzola then added, “I have the impression that within Ferrari, there are ongoing internal discussions and reflections concerning Frédéric Vasseur’s overall performance. Perhaps what he has delivered so far is not aligning with the expectations that the company had when they appointed him.”
He emphasized, “There is little point in questioning the team principal’s identity per se, but it does make sense to scrutinize the effectiveness of his work. What should be done now is to tell him to downshift two or three gears and begin a serious review of what really needs improvement inside the team.”
The experienced engineer also touched on structural issues within the technical department: “At Ferrari, we currently have Loïc Serra, but he is not a technical director. It is likely that he is not in a position to fully take charge of the development and design of the car. So the real question becomes: what is Ferrari planning for the 2026 and 2027 seasons?”
With these pointed remarks, Luigi Mazzola closed his intervention, shedding light on growing doubts surrounding the leadership of Frédéric Vasseur and Ferrari’s current technical direction, especially with the major regulation changes coming in 2026.
