Ferrari Reportedly Set to Extend Fred Vasseur’s Contract as Team Principal Through 2030
Despite recent speculation suggesting a possible departure, Frédéric Vasseur is expected to remain in charge of Scuderia Ferrari for the long term. According to reports from Autoracer, a multi-year contract extension is already in place that would keep the Frenchman at the helm of the Maranello-based team until the end of the 2030 Formula 1 season.
This development comes after days of swirling rumors about Fred Vasseur’s future, especially in the wake of Christian Horner’s dramatic exit from Red Bull Racing. Some believed Ferrari could make a move for the now-available British team boss. However, if the Autoracer report is accurate, Ferrari has instead opted for continuity, closing the door on any potential Horner deal and reinforcing its trust in Vasseur’s leadership.
Ferrari Chooses Stability Over Disruption
Sources suggest that Ferrari Chief Executive Officer Benedetto Vigna made the decision to continue with Frédéric Vasseur after internal evaluations. The rationale behind this choice is centered on maintaining technical and managerial stability, particularly ahead of the new technical regulations that will be introduced in 2026.
Ferrari appears unwilling to take the risk of a leadership shake-up that could disrupt the development of its 2026 challenger. The memory of what happened following the departure of Mattia Binotto in late 2022 is still fresh: the team began the 2023 season with a car that lacked competitiveness and struggled to recover ground throughout the year. A misstep now, in the critical lead-up to new regulations, could delay Ferrari’s return to title contention until the end of the decade.
According to the report, the Italian leadership also showed little interest in pursuing Christian Horner. Not only was the team unwilling to match the lucrative terms Horner enjoyed at Red Bull, but it was also clear that the British manager was seeking full control over the team—something that does not align with Ferrari’s more centralized corporate structure.
Vasseur’s Extension: Terms and Strategic Value
As reported by Autoracer, the contract extension offered to Frédéric Vasseur spans five years, likely running through the 2030 season. While exact financial terms were not disclosed, the renewal is believed to retain the same general framework as his current deal.
There is no official confirmation from Ferrari at this time, and it remains unknown whether the new agreement includes performance clauses or early-exit options in case the team fails to meet key objectives. However, given Ferrari’s well-documented title drought—having not won a Constructors’ Championship since 2008 or a Drivers’ title since 2007—it’s likely that management has inserted mechanisms to safeguard its long-term goals.
Horner Off the Table, Despite Past Links with Hamilton
Christian Horner’s unexpected exit from Red Bull had reignited speculation about a possible move to Ferrari. However, according to reports, the Italian side never seriously entertained the idea. Team insiders reportedly considered Horner too expensive and too demanding in terms of power and autonomy. Moreover, Ferrari’s leadership was not willing to alter its internal balance by introducing a figure as high-profile and polarizing as Horner.
By renewing its commitment to Fred Vasseur, Ferrari is sending a clear message: it is prioritizing internal harmony, long-term planning, and a steady hand as it builds toward a new era under the 2026 regulations.
For now, all signs point to Frédéric Vasseur remaining in red for years to come—unless results dictate otherwise.
