When Lewis Hamilton accepted Ferrari’s offer, his goal was to win an eighth world title and close out his extraordinary, history-making Formula 1 career in the best way possible. However, the reality has so far fallen short of expectations. His first season with Ferrari is proving to be one of the most difficult chapters in a career that spans nearly two decades. Despite being overwhelmed by the Scuderia’s struggles and the challenges of adapting to a new team and car, the seven-time world champion continues to speak with enthusiasm about this new Italian chapter and his desire to help Ferrari return to the top, possibly starting next year. Lewis Hamilton reiterated this ambition ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix.
That veil of mystery…
Lewis Hamilton doesn’t lack determination, but he’s clearly facing difficulties he has only hinted at recently. Rather than specifying them, he’s chosen to focus on the future and preparations for next season, sparking much speculation within the paddock. “A lot has happened and is still happening,” admitted the former Mercedes driver. “Maybe one day everything that held us back this season will be revealed — whether it’s team errors, issues with the car, or driver mistakes.” So, while some of his comments sound like he’s under pressure in perhaps the toughest phase of his career, Hamilton remains committed to helping Ferrari rise and improve for the future.
A challenging start
Difficulties didn’t spare Hamilton in Spielberg either. His Friday was complicated, starting with gearbox issues that slowed him in FP1 — Ferrari later resolved them by replacing the entire transmission on car #44. Then came a clear lack of confidence with the car, as Hamilton never seemed at ease during FP2. He reported major pace problems to his race engineer Riccardo Adami, saying: “For some reason, I just have no pace.” The seven-time world champion is now facing a crucial night of work with his engineers to try and turn things around for the rest of the Austrian Grand Prix weekend.
