F1 is leaving the New Continent to return to Europe with the Austrian GP: let’s look at the race weekend times. After saying goodbye to Canada, Formula 1 will take a one-week break before heading to the final stop of June, which is also the eleventh race of the season.
Introduced in 1963, the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg has seen Max Verstappen win no fewer than four times. However, when it comes to victories by constructor, Scuderia Ferrari, McLaren, and Mercedes are tied with six wins each. Austria will be a crucial race for Andrea Stella’s team to consolidate its position in the championship standings. In the drivers’ standings, it remains to be seen who will come out on top between Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.
The Formula One World Championship is taking a break, mainly for logistical reasons. The season began in March and it’s “only” June, but 10 races have already been held. There are still 14 left on the calendar, and the road to December is still long. Therefore, there’s time to return to Europe without rushing, with the next event scheduled for the weekend of June 27–29.
The final weekend of the current month will host the Austrian Grand Prix, an event that over the years has taken on a sort of “political significance.” In fact, this has effectively become Red Bull’s home Grand Prix. Years ago, the Salzburg-based multinational purchased the Spielberg circuit and brought it back to life after it had literally fallen into ruin.
Indeed, racing returned to the Styrian hills in 2014 after more than a decade of absence. Since then, the Austrian Grand Prix has never been missing from the world championship calendar. In fact, it even “doubled up” in both 2020 and 2021 with the creation of the Styrian GP, a workaround that allowed for a double header during the pandemic.
