Hamilton hopes for rain to break Ferrari’s negative run in Singapore
Lewis Hamilton is determined to put an end to Ferrari’s difficult run of results at the Singapore Grand Prix. The Marina Bay Circuit has often been a favorable track for the Scuderia, and after losing second place in the Constructors’ Championship to Mercedes in Baku, the team needs a strong performance this weekend.
The seven-time Formula 1 world champion admitted he is quietly hoping for rain during the weekend. A wet race could introduce the kind of unpredictability that might make the event more exciting, especially on a track where overtaking is notoriously difficult and where qualifying often decides the outcome of the race.
Although Singapore’s location near the equator makes heavy showers a frequent possibility, rain has only fallen during the race on two occasions in its history – in 2017 and in 2022. However, forecasts for this year’s edition suggest there is again a chance of wet weather, which gives Lewis Hamilton hope.
The British driver is still chasing his first victory with Ferrari, and he believes that a strong result at Marina Bay could also help the Scuderia reclaim second place in the Constructors’ standings.
Lewis Hamilton’s record in Singapore
The Briton has enjoyed plenty of success at Marina Bay in the past. He has won the Singapore Grand Prix four times – in 2009, 2014, 2017 and 2018 – and has stood on the podium three additional times. However, he has yet to achieve a win at the venue in Ferrari colors.
The 40-year-old underlined how both qualifying and the weather conditions will be decisive factors this weekend, as they could completely change the balance of the event.
“I mean, there will be races where if we qualify much better, we will be in a much stronger position to fight,” Lewis Hamilton explained. “I would give anything for an upgrade, but of course we don’t have one. All the focus now is on next year’s car, so we just have to keep improving in terms of optimization and execution over the weekend.”
He continued: “[Singapore] is not one of the most exciting races, so qualifying will be everything. And then I hope it rains, or something like that, because at least it would make everything a little bit more interesting.”
Could Lewis Hamilton score his first Ferrari podium in Singapore?
The big question for the weekend is whether Lewis Hamilton can finally secure his first podium finish for Ferrari. When asked about the possibility, the British driver said: “It would be nice, but it won’t change much for me.”
