The first developments
Ferrari’s approach to the Bahrain GP has been marked by discussions over possible updates to bring to the SF-25. Initially, right after the race in Suzuka, Fred Vasseur appeared to deny the likelihood of upgrades being seen on the red car already this week in Sakhir.
There has since been much talk about the problems affecting the car: ride height management, of course, but also the overall balance. Meanwhile, it is becoming increasingly clear that the two drivers – Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton – are heading in different directions in terms of how they want the car to evolve.
Lewis Hamilton’s confirmation
Speaking to journalists during media day in Bahrain, it was the seven-time world champion himself who confirmed that there will be updates on the Ferraris this weekend. He said that the team has an update this weekend, and he was excited, adding that they should have a bit more downforce. The Briton noted that the car lacks overall performance in terms of pace.
The seven-time Formula 1 world champion added that he had done a few more laps since the tests – referring to his first experience with the SF-25 single-seater, which took place in Sakhir during pre-season testing – and that he should now be more comfortable with the car. He concluded that this should bode well for a good weekend, explaining that he now understands the car’s setup much better than he did in February.
