Ferrari returns to Bahrain after the pre-season tests, during which the team realized that the SF-25 would not be competitive against McLaren and others. The Sakhir race comes one week after the Japanese Grand Prix, where Ferrari collected only a fourth and sixth place with Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, respectively. On the Suzuka track, the weaknesses of a car in need of updates to improve became objectively clear.
“The fact that the fourth race of the season takes place in Bahrain gives us the opportunity to measure the progress we have made in managing the SF-25 compared to the tests a month and a half ago.” – he pointed out.
The French team principal is aware that challenging McLaren in the desert is not realistic at this point, and he makes no mention of the potential updates expected, particularly to the floor.
“We know we still lack performance to fight with McLaren, and we believe that we need to make progress, especially in terms of optimizing the car’s balance. This will be our focus in Sakhir, with the support of those working at the factory in Maranello.”
Fred Vasseur’s hope is to begin a turnaround that will allow Ferrari to gain positions over Red Bull and Mercedes: “We need to focus on every phase of the weekend in great detail, knowing that even just a tenth gained can mean being ahead of some of our rivals both in qualifying on Saturday and in the race on Sunday.” – the Ferrari team principal concluded ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix weekend in Sakhir.
