For Scuderia Ferrari the 2023 Formula 1 championship is proving to be complex and difficult to manage, at least by virtue of the results of the first three races of the world championship. The men of the Scuderia, to date, are dealing with a slow SF-23 full of problems and which, despite the winter high expectations, is proving incapable of battling both with Red Bull and with teams such as Aston Martin and Mercedes.
Given the current situation, the Maranello team has only collected a few points during the first three GPs: the SF-23 car had a very poor display of performance in the two Middle Eastern rounds (where the single-seater suffered from lack of downforce and tire management problems), while in Australia, where the situation seemed better (with a car on a similar level to its rivals) no points were collected due to the various situations that occurred on track for Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz.
To date, the Italian team has only 26 points in the Constructors Championship and is forced, in addition to chasing rivals, to manage the disappointment mixed with pressure within the Ferrari Racing Division and the great discontent of the Tifosi who, for the umpteenth year were forced to postpone their championship dreams. A discontent which, as reported during the last few days, was expressed decisively, and sometimes harshly, by Lapo Elkann (brother of Ferrari president John Elkann) on his Twitter profile.
“Ferrari needs passion, seriousness and a winning team, in the pits and outside. It’s time to wake us up, enough with politics and games, in this way we will never win!” – this was the outburst posted by Lapo Elkann on his Twitter profile.
An outburst on which Italian journalist and Formula 1 expert Leo Turrini expressed himself in his blog ‘Profondo Rosso’, admitting that he was not at all surprised by Lapo’s words. On the contrary, the journalist appreciated the comments of John Elkann’s brother as the result of his great passion for the Maranello team and, therefore, an expression of his (as well as that of millions of fans) disappointment with the current situation of the team.

“I’m not surprised by Lapo Elkann’s noisy outings on the Ferrari team presided over by his brother John. I’ve known Lapo since he was a kid. […] Precisely because I know him, I know that his passion for racing is sincere, for him the disappointments of Ferrari are a bleeding wound”.

Words, in fact, that are an expression of Lapo’s passion and attachment to the “Red cause”. This is an elements which, at least in appearance, seems to be lacking in the current top management of the company: the president John Elkann and the CEO Benedetto Vigna. For this reason Leo Turrini, despite his objective difficulties, would welcome the figure of Lapo Elkann in a leading role at Ferrari.
“The difference in character compared to his brother, who is the president of Ferrari, could not be clearer. But, from an emotional point of view, he would not be out of place, the cadet, in a role of responsibility in Maranello. Obviously I don’t think the conditions are there”.
A candidacy that would be difficult to implement but which, at least in terms of passion and involvement, would be welcome and, perhaps, also useful in helping the fans to recognize themselves in a management which, as never before, appears distant and disinterested in the sporting aspects of the company. Having a leader who empathizes with a collective feeling helps. Show us you care, John.” – Leo Turrini concluded.
