Fred Vasseur wants to keep improving: after Bahrain, now comes Saudi Arabia. Ferrari is “working intensively” to return to the podium—could Jeddah be the right track for it?
The Scuderia wants to build on the progress shown in Manama. In Bahrain, Ferrari narrowly missed out on the podium; in Saudi Arabia—on the fast Jeddah circuit—Fred Vasseur hopes to capture it, also relying on the new floor already introduced in Sakhir.
McLaren currently leads the pack, occasionally challenged by a strong George Russell in his Mercedes. Then come the Ferraris of Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, both still without a podium finish in 2025. The first four rounds of the championship have not brought the results hoped for by the team and Ferrari fans, but Bahrain offered glimpses of light. The new floor has improved the SF-25, which is gradually trying to raise its performance level step by step.
Fred Vasseur in search of the lost podium: will Jeddah enhance Ferrari’s new floor?
The next round of the season keeps the teams in the Arabian Peninsula. From Bahrain to Saudi Arabia: the Jeddah circuit is one of the fastest on the calendar and, according to Fred Vasseur, “has very different characteristics in terms of layout and asphalt compared to Bahrain.” The Saudi track, made up of fast and winding corners, could highlight the qualities of Ferrari’s new floor even more than Bahrain did. The team hopes to raise the bar as early as next weekend, after a gradually improving performance in Manama.
The updates gave Ferrari reason to hope for a podium in Sakhir—now the decisive step needs to be taken. Fred Vasseur explained that in Bahrain, they had made small steps forward in terms of competitiveness, thanks both to an improved performance from the car and a solid team effort in qualifying and the race.
Despite the tight schedule, the French team boss’s squad has continued to study potential solutions for the Saudi weekend without pause. Fred Vasseur stated that in the few days spent in Maranello, they had kept working intensely on data analysis. He added that they wanted to approach the Jeddah race with the same objective and remain focused on themselves, as that is the best way to extract the maximum from the available package and to make steady progress in closing the gap to those ahead in the standings.
