Although the season, now nine Grands Prix in, hasn’t delivered the satisfaction hoped for at the start, the Prancing Horse is not ready to throw in the towel. Fred Vasseur is planning the next updates for Ferrari, currently the second-best team in the standings behind a runaway McLaren.
With seven wins in nine races, McLaren is dominating the 2025 F1 World Championship. The Woking team, following its steady (and successful) rise in 2024, has picked up where it left off and reaffirmed itself as the clear leader of the pack. While McLaren has stayed on top, the same can’t be said for Ferrari. The Constructors’ title, which was up for grabs until the chequered flag at the last GP in Abu Dhabi, had raised hopes — at Maranello and beyond. Yet ahead of the 2025 Formula 1 season, few insiders expected the Prancing Horse to struggle this much.
McLaren is far ahead, but Fred Vasseur doesn’t give up: Ferrari’s upcoming updates
With nine of twenty-four rounds completed, Ferrari is leading the chasing group in the Constructors’ Championship. However, the gap to McLaren is enormous: nearly 200 points separate the papaya team from the red one. Despite the deficit, the Prancing Horse has no intention of giving up this early in June.
Fred Vasseur, though fully aware of how hard it will be to close the gap, remains determined to push forward with updates to the Ferrari SF-25. “Now, fighting for the title is harder, considering McLaren’s advantage and consistency,” explained the team principal to La Stampa – “We need to stay focused on ourselves, just like twelve months ago,” Fred Vasseur added. “Even then, I never thought about the championship. I want the same mindset from the team.”
Sources close to the team indicate that the Italian squad is preparing to bring some significant updates to the SF-25. Between Montréal and Silverstone, insiders expect to see a new floor and a new rear suspension on the red car. “I can say we have some updates coming. It’s not time yet to focus only on 2026…”
