The Monegasque driver has a 23-point lead over the seven-time Formula 1 world champion
The current gap between Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton in the Drivers’ Championship (23 points in favour of the Monegasque) doesn’t fully reflect the fact that Charles Leclerc is clearly Ferrari’s reference driver at the moment. Charles Leclerc has secured the last two podium finishes, and in terms of race circumstances, Lewis Hamilton has little to complain about — the podium in the Miami Sprint was completely unexpected, and at Imola, it was the Safety Car incidents that gave the seven-time champion the opportunity to attack and overtake Charles Leclerc in the final laps.
Johnny Herbert expected more from Lewis Hamilton, whose adaptation period clearly isn’t over — though nine race weekends out of 24 have already been completed. “Right now, Lewis Hamilton looks truly lost, to the point where you wonder whether he still has his trademark pace. I thought he’d be able to overcome any issue, but with this car, he seems stuck in a dead end. Since winning the Sprint in China, Lewis Hamilton hasn’t found a comfort zone, and the synergy with his race engineer doesn’t seem to be there,” said the former driver in comments to InstantWithdrawalBettingSites.
“Lewis Hamilton seems unable to extract that extra something he needs. He doesn’t understand why he can’t do it, he feels he should be able to — especially since Leclerc is getting better results with the same car and reaching the podium more consistently,” Johnny Herbert added. “Charles Leclerc will keep growing and holds the future of Ferrari in his hands. He’s the man they can count on — Ferrari can’t rely on Lewis Hamilton at this point. It’s terrible to say, but it’s the truth.”
