Cesare Fiorio, discussing the now former Alfa Romeo team principal, underlined the qualities that should allow him to quickly get used to the Maranello environment and be able to bring the Italian side back at the top.

“He has a winning curriculum in minor series but in Formula 1 he hasn’t done anything yet because he didn’t get the chance to lead a top team. He carried on his business in a very classic way, paying close attention to money – said Cesare Fiorio – He’s not able to guarantee the World Championship by himself, he needs a strong team alongside him and in case of failure, he will have the alibi of having just arrived. However, I think he is a capable and intelligent person, able to adapt quickly” – added Cesare Fiorio, who made his debut as Ferrari sporting director in 1989, with the difficult task of making the Maranello team competitive again after some disappointing championships during the mid-1980s.

Cesare Fiorio, concluding his thoughts about the French manager, then added: “Fred Vasseur does not come down from the moon and will find a way to manage Ferrari at the top, starting from the excellent base left by Mattia Binotto. He will have to put the team in a position to develop the car during the season. And put them in the right context to make better strategic choices: not at the table or in the remote garage, I’m talking about the crucial decisions that must be taken on the track, in just a few seconds. He should intervene in that sector” – the former Ferrari sporting director pointed out.
