The organization chart defined by Mattia Binotto during his experience as Ferrari team principal in the last few years did not include the presence of the classic role of technical director. Instead, Mattia Binotto focused in a different definition of roles and tasks, with a manager for each area of the project.
Indeed, Enrico Cardile is currently in charge of the chassis area, with Enrico Gualtieri at the top of the power unit area, David Sanchez the reference figure in the aerodynamics sector and Enrico Racca in charge of logistics and the quality of materials. But, as has been rumoured for some time, the departure of Mattia Binotto – who in fact officially held the role of technical director – could lead to another person becoming the key figure for the entire technical project.
There has been talk of Simone Resta for a long time: the Italian engineer is currently the technical director for the Haas F1 Team. He previously worked at Scuderia Ferrari from 2001 to 2018, and from 2019 to 2020, as a senior design engineer, head of the R&D department, deputy chief design director and from 2014 to 2018, as Chief Designer. But at the moment there is no official announcement regarding the Italian engineer’s return to Maranello. Today’s edition of the Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport, in an article written by Fulvio Solms, instead suggested that the technical director role it could be given to Enrico Cardile, who is already present in the technical areas of Ferrari for many years.
47 year-old Enrico Cardile, born in Arezzo, Italy, is qualified with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Pisa University in 2002 and his thesis was on the topic of the Ferrari wind tunnel. In 2003, he worked at the university, collaborating with Ferrari on an aerodynamic innovation project, according to his official presentation on the Maranello team’s website.
