Following the recent comments from Fred Vasseur, further confirmations are now emerging: Ferrari could introduce the first upgrades for the SF-26 as early as the Chinese Grand Prix weekend.
In a Formula 1 season shaped by such a radical regulatory change, the role of in-season development is becoming increasingly crucial. This was confirmed by Fred Vasseur after the conclusion of the opening round of the 2026 Formula 1 World Championship, when the Ferrari team principal spoke about the imminent arrival of several updates for the Maranello-based team.
The head of the Scuderia, who is also continuing to work on the so-called “Macarena” wing, once again emphasized that the competitive order seen in Melbourne could change significantly over the course of the championship. Much will depend on how each team chooses to invest its budget cap in order to bring new components capable of delivering gains worth several tenths of a second per lap.
Confirmations arrive regarding the first upgrades for the SF-26
Vasseur’s comments were echoed by Sky Sport commentator Carlo Vanzini. During one of his now regular YouTube videos, the Italian journalist spoke about the possible arrival of some Ferrari upgrades already during the Shanghai race weekend.
“Surely the only team that currently seems close to Mercedes is Ferrari, but everything also changes from track to track. Already in China we should see some new parts presented on track by Ferrari, but that doesn’t mean Mercedes will just sit back or relax, so they will react.”
“It’s not just that they will react: they will also bring upgrades. Then the new parts brought to the track also have to work. What people are saying is that this year the upgrades can bring big gains in terms of lap time, so everything will have to be evaluated race by race,” said Carlo Vanzini.
As the 2026 Formula 1 season continues to take shape, the development race between the leading teams is expected to play a decisive role in defining the competitive balance. Ferrari appears determined to push early in order to reduce the gap to Mercedes and continue its effort to fight consistently at the front of the Formula 1 grid.
The 2026 Chinese Grand Prix is therefore shaping up to be a pivotal moment for Ferrari’s season, as the introduction of early technical upgrades to the SF-26 reflects the team’s aggressive strategy to out-develop their rivals and close the gap to the front of the grid.
