The debut of the new component had originally been planned for Miami. However, Ferrari has opted to accelerate its development program and introduce the “Macarena” wing earlier than expected. According to reports from the Italian website Autoracer, the new aerodynamic element will already be tested during the Formula 1 weekend in Shanghai. It represents an important decision by the Scuderia from Maranello, which, after a promising start to the season in Australia, is determined to remain competitive at the Shanghai circuit as well.
Last year, the Chinese circuit delivered one of the few highlights for the Maranello team. Lewis Hamilton secured victory in the Sprint Race before the race weekend ended on a disappointing note, with the double disqualification in the main race caused by excessive wear on the car’s floor.
Ferrari pushes hard on the accelerator
According to AutoRacer, the early arrival of the first technical upgrades for the SF-26 has now been confirmed. The objective is clear: reduce the speed gap to Mercedes, which became particularly evident during qualifying for the Australian Grand Prix.
Based on information that had already emerged during pre-season testing, the new wing could deliver an increase of approximately 8–9 km/h in top speed on the straights. Such a gain would represent a significant improvement, especially at circuits like Shanghai, where straight-line speed and top-end performance play a crucial role in overall competitiveness.
During the free practice sessions, Ferrari’s work will focus primarily on collecting comparative data. Particular attention will be given to the time required for the wing to open and close, one of the critical aspects that emerged during testing in Bahrain and an area on which the engineers in Maranello have worked intensively in recent weeks.
While the real benefit on track still needs to be confirmed, Ferrari’s intention is already clear: the team wants to accelerate the development of the SF-26 in order to reduce the performance gap and return as quickly as possible to fighting consistently at the front of the Formula 1 field.
The introduction of the Macarena wing in Shanghai reflects Ferrari’s aggressive development strategy, blending technical innovation with a sense of urgency to reclaim its position at the pinnacle of Formula 1.
The early debut of the Macarena wing at the 2026 Chinese Grand Prix therefore highlights Ferrari’s commitment to rapid evolution, as the team looks to optimize top-speed performance and maintain its competitive momentum in the early stages of the championship.
