Ferrari SF-26: Loïc Serra on the crucial design choice for 2026 F1
On the day of the official launch of the Ferrari SF-26, Loïc Serra outlined the technical philosophy guiding the development of Maranello’s new F1 car. The project was conceived to tackle a major regulatory change and marks the beginning of a new era for the Scuderia.
The chassis Technical Director explained that work on the SF-26 started with a thorough analysis of the new regulations. “The development of the SF-26 project required adapting to a completely new regulatory framework,” Serra emphasized. “We devoted a lot of time to the conceptual phase to fully understand the new technical and regulatory context.” This initial stage was crucial to avoid structural compromises over the course of the season.
The SF-26 choice that maximizes Ferrari’s development potential
According to Serra, one of the main objectives of the project was to ensure room for evolution throughout the season. “It was essential to make sure that the car’s architecture would provide sufficient flexibility for development over the course of the year,” he explained. This is a central factor, especially in a championship where the ability to react quickly often makes the difference.
In the new technical landscape, the car’s overall efficiency takes on a decisive role. Loic Serra clearly highlighted the pillars of Ferrari’s work. “In this scenario, efficiency and the integration of solutions such as active aerodynamics are key elements,” he stated. These solutions are designed to fully exploit the opportunities offered by the 2026 regulations.
The SF-26 is the result of a collective effort involving Ferrari’s entire technical team. “The SF-26 represents a major team-wide effort in the factory,” Loic Serra concluded. “We can’t wait to start the season.” With the car’s launch and its first laps on track, Ferrari officially begins its journey toward 2026, aiming to translate design choices into tangible on-track performance.
