A lot of work beneath the surface
Today, Scuderia Ferrari unveiled the new SF-24, the car that will hit the track this season with the goal of challenging – and possibly trying to beat, at least occasionally – the Red Bull, coming off a 2023 Formula One season in which it almost achieved a clean sweep of victories.
The new livery and shapes, starting from the nose, are in plain view for everyone. However, enthusiasts are mainly interested in what cannot be seen—the components beneath the hood that will ensure Ferrari can consistently compete at the top.
Enrico Gualtieri’s first impressions
Enrico Gualtieri, Technical Director of the Ferrari Power Unit, shared his first impressions on the Maranello team’s single-seater for the 2024 Formula 1 campaign, focusing on his main area of expertise: “The fact that the power unit project is frozen by regulations does not mean that 2024 does not present interesting challenges. We face a season with more races than ever in the history of the category, which means faster reaction times and fewer hours available at the bench,” explained the head of Maranello’s engine department.
“In preparation for this championship, we have reviewed all the processes related to the power unit – preparation, deliberation, and management – to maximize its performance. Furthermore,” Gualtieri continued, “we have worked hand in hand with our partners to further optimize reliability-related procedures: for example, thanks to the constant fluid monitoring we can achieve on the track with Shell, we can continually receive indications about the health of the power unit.” – Enrico Gualtieri concluded.
