30 July in Ferrari History: Rubens Barrichello’s First F1 Win
30 July is a date rich in Ferrari victories, led by Rubens Barrichello’s first Formula 1 win at the 2000 German Grand Prix. It also connects one-two finishes from different generations of Scuderia drivers.
2000: Rubens Barrichello wins from 18th
Starting 18th at Hockenheim left Rubens Barrichello with a difficult task. A race disrupted by incidents, a safety car and changing weather nevertheless created an opportunity that he seized.
His first Grand Prix victory came in his debut season with Ferrari. Michael Schumacher retired, making the result especially valuable for the team on an afternoon that had begun badly for its championship leader.
The contrast between a lowly starting position and the top step of the podium made Hockenheim a defining moment in Rubens Barrichello’s career.
Three Ferrari one-two finishes on the same date
On 30 July 1972, Jacky Ickx won the German Grand Prix ahead of Clay Regazzoni. In 2006, Michael Schumacher led Felipe Massa home at Hockenheim. In 2017, Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Räikkönen finished first and second in Hungary.
These results make 30 July particularly rewarding to explore: the date spans a maiden victory and repeated examples of Ferrari occupying both leading positions.
