At the start of the 2025 Mexican Grand Prix, Ferrari will attempt to challenge Lando Norris in an effort to go for victory, but achieving this will require a flawless strategy. Qualifying in Mexico City produced a starting grid with the two Ferrari cars immediately behind Norris, putting the Scuderia in a position where selecting the perfect approach is essential to unsettle the British McLaren driver. The Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez is notoriously one of the worst circuits for converting pole position into a win, as the long run to Turn 1 can seem never-ending. For this reason, Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton will need to avoid obstructing each other while preparing to attack Lando Norris’s car.
Strategy advice arrives for the Scuderia
But how can Ferrari achieve this? Carlo Vanzini offered guidance to the team led by Fred Vasseur in one of his post-session YouTube videos. He explained that Ferrari will need a strong team effort, even if it means asking Charles Leclerc to provide a slipstream to Lewis Hamilton. Carlo Vanzini recalled a similar situation at Sochi when Charles Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel coordinated, with the German driver emerging in front. Although that move sparked controversy over whether positions should be returned, Ferrari could adopt the same approach. Additionally, Lewis Hamilton would still benefit from his teammate’s slipstream, given that starting from third in Mexico often makes a driver one of the race favorites, Vanzini noted.
Carlo Vanzini also highlighted what seems to be a positive momentum for the Maranello squad. He observed that the media criticism following the blackout in previous races appears to be yielding results. Indeed, Ferrari returned to the podium in the United States and secured a strong qualifying performance, with Charles Leclerc in second and Lewis Hamilton in third, representing the team’s best qualifying result in recent events.
