Charles Leclerc limited Ferrari’s losses at the Bahrain Grand Prix by recovering to fourth place after a difficult opening phase marked by problems on slick tyres, a puncture and front-wing damage. After fighting his way back through the race, the Ferrari driver also delivered a firm defence of Fred Vasseur and stressed that the team remains united amid the rumours that have surrounded the Scuderia in recent days.
Considering everything that happened during the race, Charles Leclerc felt there was little more Ferrari could realistically have achieved. His fourth-place finish completed another significant Ferrari recovery in the Bahrain Grand Prix after an opening part of the race in which several setbacks compromised his chances.
Charles Leclerc says fourth place was Ferrari’s maximum
“I don’t think we could have achieved much more. At the beginning, practically everything went wrong for us, while in the second part the incidents finally started going our way. Considering what happened, I think fourth place was the maximum possible,” Charles Leclerc explained to F1 TV.
The Ferrari driver did not hide the difficulties he experienced with the car either. The combination of inconsistent behaviour, the puncture and damage to the front wing prevented Charles Leclerc from exploiting the full potential available to him during the race.
“I didn’t have a good feeling with the car, the behaviour wasn’t always consistent and I struggled to extract all of its potential. With the puncture and the damage to the front wing, we mainly had to focus on recovering whatever we could,” Charles Leclerc said.
The result ultimately left Charles Leclerc fourth after a challenging afternoon, with Ferrari forced to recover from several early setbacks. The wider difficulties of the opening phase were also central to Ferrari’s Bahrain Grand Prix fightback.
Charles Leclerc strongly defends Fred Vasseur amid Ferrari rumours
Beyond the sporting result, Charles Leclerc also addressed the speculation that has surrounded Fred Vasseur and Ferrari over the past few days. The Monegasque offered an emphatic defence of the team principal and underlined the unity within Maranello, reinforcing the message already delivered as Fred Vasseur called for an end to the rumours surrounding Ferrari.
“As a team, we have several things to analyse and improve when we find ourselves in similar conditions. But we are very united. Fred is doing everything possible to bring Ferrari back to the front and we are working together with him. Reading certain rumours over the last few days hasn’t been pleasant. I hope this result can also help put some of them to rest. Now we want to get back onto the top step of the podium as soon as possible.”
Charles Leclerc’s message was therefore clear after the Bahrain Grand Prix: Ferrari still has areas to analyse and improve when similar difficulties arise, but the team remains united behind Fred Vasseur and focused on returning to victory as quickly as possible.
