Ferrari’s team principal, Frederic Vasseur, has stated that Enrico Cardile, currently serving as the Head of Chassis, will soon be appointed as the new technical director of the team. Following Mattia Binotto’s departure last December, the role has remained officially vacant, although the Italian technician has effectively been involved in the development of the SF-23 this season along with his team.
Fred Vasseur promises clarity on Ferrari’s organizational chart: Enrico Cardile soon to be the new technical director
When asked why he has not yet appointed Enrico Cardile as the technical director, Frederic Vasseur told motorsport.it: “I will do it. Cardile is in charge of the technical aspects of the car. Gualtieri is responsible for the engine, and I consider them as directors of their respective areas. Both of them report directly to me.” – he explained.
“This is not the first time I have been asked to clarify the organizational chart. Indeed, there has been some confusion, but we will bring clarity. With Laurent Mekies’ departure, we will have the opportunity to rearrange.” – the French manager continued.
Therefore, the position of the Frenchman is clear, following the confusion that arose after Mattia Binotto’s departure last year. The technician from Lausanne held both the roles of team principal and technical director. This choice was made by him but did not produce the desired results after four years.

Regarding the void left by Laurent Mekies, Frederic Vasseur rectifies: “Diego Ioverno will take on several responsibilities that Laurent had, such as the relations with the FIA. As for Mekies, since he resigned, he has not been involved in technical matters. His presence has been limited to the pit wall during races,” he adds. “He has always been completely transparent. Even before we decided, he had already excluded himself from all technical meetings and other sensitive tasks.” – the Ferrari team principal concluded.
