For the Hungarian Grand Prix, the Ferrari SF-24 will have an updated floor with modifications aimed at combating bouncing in corners. This news has emerged from the paddock of the Hungarian GP.
After three GPs of struggling, Ferrari is looking to bounce back on a circuit that should not compromise the suspension of the red car. This problem had already emerged in Spain and was identified right after the weekend concluded. To try to improve this situation and correct the downward trajectory, Ferrari has introduced a new updated floor. From the paddock of the Hungarian GP, the modifications to the floor of the Ferrari SF-24 to combat bouncing have emerged.
Yesterday, Frederic Vasseur surprised everyone with the arrival of a new floor specification for the Hungarian Grand Prix. In the team principal’s statements, the updates to the red car’s floor were not specifically mentioned, but some clues emerged from the paddock.
The first anti-bouncing corrections for the Ferrari SF-24 arrive. Sources from the Italian website F1inGenerale have indicated the modifications made to the car’s floor that we will see on track this weekend. The updates to the floor are not visible in photos and do not involve the shape of the floor edges or the Venturi underneath. According to their sources, it involves a stiffer specification to improve the piece’s behavior in corners.
A stiffer piece allows for better management of the pressure in the Venturi channels, causing less flexion under maximum load conditions. This enables the largest component of the car to generate consistent downforce without losses, a phenomenon that triggers bouncing in corners. To stiffen the floor specification, Ferrari has chosen a different arrangement of carbon fiber or a new filler to improve its rigidity. The arrangement of carbon layers indicates the rigidity of a piece. By orienting the various layers differently, along with the filler materials, the piece behaves differently.
The updates to this floor are probably not the definitive solution to the SF-24’s problems, but they are a first step towards the next development phase. Updates will involve the suspension system, which currently seems to be the weak point of the SF-24 single-seater.
