It has been almost two months since the official announcement of Adrian Newey’s departure from Red Bull, with the British engineer set to leave the Milton Keynes team after nineteen years of great success. However, he will complete the Hypercar RB17 project, which will be unveiled to the public for the first time on Friday, July 12, at the Cathedral Paddock during the Goodwood Festival.
Adrian Newey and the Aston Martin option
In recent weeks, there has been much talk about an imminent agreement between Adrian Newey and Ferrari, although Eddie Jordan, a close friend and manager of the British engineer, immediately dismissed these rumors, revealing Adrian Newey’s intentions at least for the short term: “Remember, he has been under constant pressure at Red Bull.”
“So, if he intends to take a break and relax for a while, everyone would understand, and I think it’s more likely that this will happen rather than diving into other potential career opportunities. Things have changed a bit, he has aged a bit.”
Besides the Maranello team, another team that has shown great interest is Aston Martin, with Lawrence Stroll’s consortium reportedly putting a monstrous offer on the table to secure the aerodynamic genius.
While this scenario seemed to be fading away, the Aston Martin option has made a strong comeback in recent hours.
According to De Telegraaf, Adrian Newey made a private visit to the team’s brand-new HQ in Silverstone, a massive structure comprising three buildings that span 37,000 m2 and will host over 700 employees.
When asked about the rumors, Aston Martin denied being close to any announcement: “The Aston Martin team is a very attractive project with Lawrence Stroll’s vision, a state-of-the-art new technology campus, and exciting partnerships with Aramco and Honda. Many high-profile figures from various backgrounds are linked to the team, but we have nothing to announce.”
With the battle now confirmed to be between Aston Martin and Ferrari, it remains to be seen whether Adrian Newey will prefer the convenience of staying in England, moving just a few kilometers from his current Red Bull base in Milton Keynes, or if he will choose to accept the challenge and allure of an iconic brand like Ferrari, with the potential Charles Leclerc – Lewis Hamilton – Adrian Newey trio bringing unparalleled prestige to the Maranello team.
