Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna has confirmed that the Italian team is already working tirelessly towards the 2027 Formula 1 season, while remaining determined to fight for the strongest possible results in the final four races of 2026. With Andrea Kimi Antonelli crowned world champion and Mercedes closing in on the Constructors’ Championship, Ferrari’s immediate objective is to secure second place in both standings.
Speaking during Ferrari’s third-quarter 2026 financial results conference call, Benedetto Vigna reiterated the company’s determination to succeed in motorsport. His comments underline Maranello’s commitment to finishing the current campaign strongly while preparations for next season are already progressing at full speed.
Ferrari targets second place in both 2026 F1 championships
With Andrea Kimi Antonelli having secured the 2026 Formula 1 Drivers’ World Championship and Mercedes now on the verge of claiming the Constructors’ title, Ferrari has four Grands Prix remaining to try to secure second place in both championships.
The battle for the runner-up position in the Drivers’ Championship remains particularly close. Max Verstappen currently occupies second place, holding a narrow two-point advantage over Lewis Hamilton and a 16-point lead over Charles Leclerc.
That leaves both Ferrari drivers firmly involved in the fight for second, with every result across the remaining four rounds potentially influencing their final championship positions. The narrow gap between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton makes the contest especially significant for the seven-time world champion.
Ferrari’s position in the Constructors’ Championship is considerably more comfortable. The Scuderia currently sits firmly in second place, enjoying a 122-point advantage over Red Bull and a 139-point cushion over McLaren.
With the championship entering its final stages, supporters can explore the remaining possibilities using the F1 Championship Points Calculator, which allows different points scenarios to be examined.
The next opportunity for Ferrari to strengthen its position comes at Interlagos, where the 2026 Brazilian Grand Prix takes place from 6 to 8 November. Both Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc will be looking to collect valuable points as the battle for second place continues.
Benedetto Vigna confirms Ferrari is already working tirelessly for 2027
During the conference call presenting Ferrari’s financial results for the third quarter of 2026, CEO Benedetto Vigna briefly addressed the company’s current Formula 1 activities and its ambitions for the future.
As is generally the case during meetings with journalists and financial analysts, his remarks remained broad rather than exploring specific sporting or technical matters in detail. Consequently, Benedetto Vigna did not address sensitive questions such as Ferrari’s management of its two drivers following the incidents involving Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc at the Mexico City Grand Prix.
Instead, the Ferrari CEO focused on the importance of competition, congratulating the newly crowned world champion and reaffirming the motivation behind the Italian manufacturer’s continued involvement in international motorsport.
“Let’s now move on to racing. Last Sunday in Mexico, a historic moment took place for Formula 1 and Italian motorsport, and I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Kimi Antonelli on winning the world championship. Competition is what drives us forward.
“It raises the bar, fuels our determination and reminds us every day why Ferrari races. To win. We remain fully focused on Formula 1 and the World Endurance Championship, pushing as hard as possible until the end of the season, while already working tirelessly in preparation for next year.”
Ferrari determined to finish 2026 strongly while preparing for next season
Benedetto Vigna’s remarks highlight the two priorities facing Ferrari as the 2026 racing season approaches its conclusion. The team remains committed to achieving the best possible results in the remaining Formula 1 races and in the World Endurance Championship, while simultaneously directing significant attention towards 2027.
The message is particularly relevant given Ferrari’s recent development efforts. The team’s 2026 aerodynamic upgrades and their potential importance for the 2027 Formula 1 car have already raised questions about how the lessons learned from the current SF-26 could influence next season’s project.
Although Benedetto Vigna did not reveal specific details about the development programme or the technical direction Ferrari intends to pursue, his comments confirm that preparations for the next championship are already underway.
For the immediate future, however, the objective remains clear. Ferrari wants to consolidate second place in the Constructors’ Championship and give both Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc the strongest possible opportunity to finish runner-up in the Drivers’ standings.
The final four Grands Prix will therefore remain important for Maranello, even though the world championship titles are effectively decided. Ferrari’s challenge is to finish 2026 as strongly as possible while continuing the work intended to put the team in a better position to fight for victories in 2027.
