The three days of winter training for the Scuderia Ferrari drivers at the Fiorano circuit are drawing to a close. After the reserve and test driver Robert Shwartzman, Carlos Sainz took to the track yesterday and today it will be Charles Leclerc’s turn to get into the cockpit of the SF21, the single-seater that raced in the 2021 Formula One season.
For the Monegasque, this is the first outing of the season at the wheel of a Formula 1 car, albeit of an older generation, which will serve to get rid of some of the “rust” accumulated over the winter. And perhaps, if there is a moment’s break, it will also be an opportunity to go and say hello to the fans who will surely be crowding the walls around the Maranello team’s circuit.
It remains to be seen whether he will be luckier than his teammate, who had to deal with the wet track yesterday morning, but then managed to make up for it in the afternoon, completing a solid total of 354 km, therefore a distance greater than that of a Grand Prix.
On the occasion of this test, however, the other Maranello reserve driver was absent, i.e. Antonio Giovinazzi, who was simultaneously engaged in Sebring in the development tests of the 499P, the Hypercar with which Ferrari will return to fight in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
