Scuderia Ferrari Spanish driver Carlos Sainz had a productive training session on the second day of testing that the Maranello team has scheduled at the Fiorano circuit with the SF21 challenger. The Spaniard did a few laps in the morning with the track still wet: using the wet demo tires he covered only 26 laps before the lunch break.
After all, the weather forecasts indicated rain as possible which, however, spared Ferrari’s home track. The asphalt gradually dried out, so Carlos Sainz was able to switch to slick tires in the afternoon, finding a good pace to regain confidence with the functions of the steering wheel and the procedures that the drivers have to memorize with movements that must become automatic.
At the end of the day Carlos covered 354 km, a distance greater than a Grand Prix: after the frequent stops he also performed some practice starts, although the grip was very limited given the temperature of 7 degrees in the air.
The fans were able to appreciate the fact that, once Carlos got out of the cockpit after the morning laps, he went to say hello to the many fans who had put up with the cold day behind the Fiorano walls, making himself available to sign autographs and share selfies.

The three-day session in this “training test” will end tomorrow with Charles Leclerc, the other main driver who will become familiar with the SF21, while yesterday Robert Shwartzman opened the test, the 23-year-old who will be third driver together with Antonio Giovinazzi. The Italian did not take part in this round because he was busy in Sebring preparing the 499P for its debut in the WEC which will take place right on the American track.
