In 2022 the Grand Prix was suspended due to the rain and only a few laps more than 50% of the scheduled duration were held: Max Verstappen gave the whole group a driving lesson, overtaking Charles Leclerc on the outside in the first corner and gaining one second per lap, while the race direction admitted to making some big mistakes after allowing some tractors to enter the track despite Pierre Gasly running on the circuit at 200 km/h. The circuit has a contract valid until the end of 2024: fans are waiting for the official announcement of a renewal, in fear that Suzuka will end up in discussions as well as Spa-Francorchamps and Monza.
