Lewis Hamilton is not particularly concerned by the Sprint format awaiting Ferrari at the 2026 Singapore Grand Prix, even though Marina Bay will give drivers only limited time to build confidence before competitive sessions begin. Instead, the seven-time world champion believes Ferrari’s real challenge will be extracting the maximum from a strong starting point without losing its way as the weekend develops.
Singapore will host the final Sprint event of the Formula 1 season, adding an extra complication at one of the championship’s most demanding street circuits. Drivers normally need time to develop confidence around Marina Bay before tackling qualifying, but the compressed format means that process will have to happen much faster. The full 2026 Singapore Grand Prix Sprint schedule underlines just how little preparation time the teams will have.
Lewis Hamilton identifies Ferrari’s real Singapore Sprint challenge
For Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton, however, the Sprint itself is not the main concern. Explaining why, the Briton also made a pointed observation about one of the patterns that has characterised the Maranello team’s 2026 season.
“We often arrive at the track with a good starting baseline. The challenge becomes extracting the maximum performance without heading in the wrong direction,” Lewis Hamilton said in Ferrari’s press release.
The comment reflects one of Ferrari’s recurring difficulties this season. The team has frequently arrived on Friday with what appears to be a competitive initial direction, only to lose ground as the weekend progresses and setup development continues.
Problems have generally emerged later, particularly during Saturday sessions. That is one reason Lewis Hamilton is not especially worried about Friday’s Sprint Qualifying. With only one practice session available beforehand, Ferrari’s ability to arrive with a strong baseline could become particularly important, an issue also highlighted in the team’s broader Singapore Sprint preparation challenge.
Hamilton focuses on preparation before Marina Bay Sprint
Lewis Hamilton believes the factors requiring the greatest attention will instead involve his own preparation for the unusual weekend format. Singapore already places significant physical and mental demands on drivers, and the Sprint structure introduces another change to their normal routine.
“Having to face a Sprint in Singapore means doing something different compared with usual. From sleep to taking care of all the other aspects that can normally make a difference in the car.”
The challenge is intensified by the nature of the Marina Bay Street Circuit, where confidence and precision are especially important and drivers have little margin for error. With competitive running arriving almost immediately, adapting quickly will be essential.
Lewis Hamilton eager for Singapore’s tougher challenge
The final objective will be to remain focused and maximise Ferrari’s package with very little track time available. Far from being discouraged by that prospect, Lewis Hamilton says he is looking forward to the increased difficulty.
“Marina Bay is a difficult circuit and the Sprint will make it even more challenging. We will have to adapt quickly to a track that is completely different from Kuala Lumpur. It will be an exciting challenge.”
Lewis Hamilton added that the greater complexity of the sessions is part of what appeals to him most as a driver.
“I like knowing that the sessions will be more complicated than usual. Those are the moments when a driver can make more of a difference, and that is what makes the sport so rewarding.”
The Ferrari driver therefore heads into Singapore with confidence rather than concern over the format, believing that the compressed weekend could reward preparation, adaptability and the ability to maximise the car immediately. It also adds another factor to the optimism surrounding Lewis Hamilton’s Singapore Grand Prix prospects with Ferrari.
