A new chapter begins in the partnership between Ferrari and Philip Morris. The two companies will combine their expertise to promote the decarbonization process of their facilities in Maranello and Crespellano, in Emilia-Romagna. Another step forward for the Prancing Horse company in the field of environmental protection, aiming to become carbon neutral by 2030.
Ferrari and Philip Morris have a very long history of collaboration. Starting in 1973, the partnership led to the historic Marlboro liveries of the Reds, later evolving into the characteristic barcode of the early 2010s. The Mission Winnow logo, the latest controversial iteration of the relationship between the two companies, was also linked to a project by Philip Morris.
The new initiative involves the Ferrari E-Lab, with the goal of “evaluating solutions that contribute to industrial electrification in the generation, storage, and transformation of renewable energy.” Maranello has long been pushing towards renewable energy: with the Ferrari Energy Community project, it aims to produce solar energy to make it available to the community.
From the Prancing Horse’s press release, Benedetto Vigna, Ferrari chief executive officer (CEO), states, “In the 50th year of our partnership, Ferrari and PMI share the desire to evolve their collaboration in the spirit of open innovation. Our companies will collaborate in the search for new technological solutions to develop and optimize the use of energy in our industrial processes.”
There is also enthusiasm from Philip Morris: “We look forward to collaborating with Ferrari as we continue to implement our strategy and approach to decarbonization,” says Scott Coutts, VP of Philip Morris International. “We are particularly interested in exploring the potential that industrial electrification could play in our strategy.” – he concluded.
