Where cinema meets speed, Formula 1 once again takes center stage off the track. Brad Pitt’s film set in the F1 World Championship has garnered new international recognition, strengthening an awards campaign that is gaining momentum. Following its theatrical release and a global success that exceeded all expectations, the film about the triumphant return of a veteran driver continues to make waves, even among the most discerning critics.
A technical recognition that matters
At the Critics’ Choice Awards, the film F1 claimed two significant victories, winning the awards for Best Editing and Best Sound. This dual accolade highlights the film’s visual and sensory impact under the direction of Joseph Kosinski and production by Jerry Bruckheimer. Stephen Mirrione’s editing work stood out against names of the highest caliber in contemporary cinema, while the sound department impressed the jury with its realism and intensity. “The goal was to make the audience feel like they were inside the cockpit, unfiltered, with the engine’s heartbeat almost physical,” explained a member of the technical team, emphasizing that authenticity to the world of Formula 1 was a top priority from the very first scene.
Between real pit lanes and a story of rebirth
Released in June 2025, the film has surpassed $630 million at the global box office, earning high praise from both audiences and critics. At the heart of the story is Sonny Hayes, a former driver who returns to the F1 circus with the fictional Apex APXGP team to mentor the young talent Joshua Pearce, played by Damson Idris. This sporting challenge intertwines with a theme of second chances, set against a paddock reconstructed to feature real drivers from the 2023 and 2024 seasons. Among the producers is Lewis Hamilton, who closely followed the development of the project. “We wanted to portray Formula 1 for what it truly is, without sugarcoating it, showing the pressure, the risk, and the passion,” he said, highlighting his creative contribution. Meanwhile, in Hollywood circles, discussions about a possible sequel are already underway, signaling a project that could continue to race at full speed.
