If stepping into the world of Formula 1 wasn’t already a daunting challenge for Brad Pitt, taking on the role while surrounded by real-life F1 legends made the experience even more intense. That was exactly the situation faced by both Brad Pitt and co-star Damson Idris during the production of the much-anticipated F1: The Movie.
The film, which aims to bring the high-speed drama of Formula One to the big screen, featured none other than seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton in a pivotal behind-the-scenes role. Lewis Hamilton, widely regarded as one of the greatest drivers in the sport’s history, had the unique opportunity to observe Pitt and Idris as they trained and performed on track. While neither actor is expected to trade in Hollywood for a professional racing career, their commitment to authenticity did not go unnoticed—especially by the seven-time Formula 1 world champion himself.
Director Joseph Kosinski, known for his work on high-octane films, spoke about the complex process of bringing F1: The Movie to life during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. He acknowledged the logistical and safety challenges involved, emphasizing that there had been extensive discussions with insurance providers before filming could proceed. However, what stood out most was that Lewis Hamilton personally approved both Pitt and Idris for their driving roles—an endorsement that carried significant weight given his status in the sport.
According to Joseph Kosinski, both actors exceeded expectations when it came to handling the cars on track. He noted that Brad Pitt and Idris Elba proved themselves as exceptionally capable drivers and that their performances behind the wheel earned the Ferrari driver’s confidence. The director added that although filming high-speed scenes was inherently nerve-racking, he trusted in the actors’ skills and in the expert team assembled to support them throughout production.
With F1: The Movie already generating excitement among motorsport fans and cinema audiences alike, the blend of star power, real-world racing experience, and Hamilton’s endorsement of the actors’ driving abilities only adds to the film’s authenticity and appeal.
