A significant milestone for Leclerc and Ferrari
Charles Leclerc will reach another important milestone with Ferrari in tomorrow’s Chinese Grand Prix, further strengthening his place in the team’s history. In the Sprint Race at the Shanghai weekend, the Monegasque driver finished second behind George Russell and ahead of his Ferrari teammate Lewis Hamilton.
Ferrari once again demonstrated that it has a strong race pace, although in qualifying the team has not yet managed to match the outright performance of Mercedes. For Sunday’s race, which will start at 8:00 a.m. Italian time, Hamilton and Leclerc will line up on the second row of the grid in third and fourth position respectively, behind the two Mercedes cars driven by Andrea Kimi Antonelli and George Russell.
However, the Chinese Grand Prix will be a particularly meaningful race for the Monegasque and Ferrari for reasons that go beyond the championship standings.
Another step into Ferrari history
In 2026, Charles Leclerc is competing in his eighth season with Ferrari. Since joining the Scuderia, he has collected eight victories and 51 podium finishes. His best result in the Drivers’ Championship came in 2022, when he ended the season in second place behind Max Verstappen.
With the Chinese Grand Prix, Charles Leclerc will take another step forward in a special Ferrari ranking. The Monegasque driver, racing with the number 16, has so far started 151 Grands Prix for the Prancing Horse. That figure currently places him second on the list of drivers with the most race starts for Ferrari, tied with Kimi Räikkönen.
By taking part in tomorrow’s race, Charles Leclerc will reach 152 Grands Prix with the Maranello team, allowing him to move into second place on his own in this particular ranking.
And who holds the top spot on that prestigious list? The driver in first place is none other than Michael Schumacher, the most successful Ferrari driver in Formula 1 history.
