The 4.909-kilometre Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari didn’t bring much joy to Ferrari. Still, Charles Leclerc tried to put a smile on fans’ faces—though for a moment, they were fooled by someone who looked just like him. Here’s what happened, and the viral videos that followed.
Ferrari hit a low point in Imola during qualifying. On Saturday, both Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton were knocked out in Q2—something that had never happened before at the Emilia-Romagna track. This disappointing result left many fans frustrated, with some even leaving the grandstands before qualifying had ended.
During the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix race, Ferrari played a prominent role, but neither driver managed to finish in the top three. Nevertheless, Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc still found a way to connect with the crowd. After the podium celebrations, both went to the pitlane and climbed onto the pit wall to greet the fans who had just watched the ceremony.
Amid cheers, chants, and autographs, the hearts of Ferrari fans quickly filled with joy despite the weekend’s disappointments.
Leclerc’s double
In the days after the GP, several videos appeared on social media showing a fan hanging on the pit wall. What stood out was this man’s striking resemblance to Charles Leclerc. They looked so alike that many fans were fooled and began cheering and filming, believing he was the real Monegasque driver. To push the illusion further, the fan waved the flag of Monaco in front of the crowd.
