Tight schedules in Maranello
“We are working on the car’s mechanics, I don’t want to give examples, it is work that can also be carried over into 2026 and that is why we are focusing on this aspect.” This is what Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur said at the press conference on the eve of the Imola GP, suggesting that in Maranello the Scuderia’s work is focusing on a structural aspect, which is likely responsible so far for the lack of competitiveness of the SF-25.
According to today’s edition of Il Corriere della Sera, the new rear suspension has passed the dynamometer test and is now being tested in the wind tunnel with different aerodynamics. “It will change especially in the area of the mounting points,” the article by Daniele Sparisce and Giuliano Duchessa reads. The debut of this new rear suspension is expected by the British GP scheduled for Sunday, July 6 (then there will be a two-week break before returning to the track at Spa in Belgium).
Now the Monaco weekend is approaching, towards which Charles Leclerc is not optimistic in light of an SF-25 that at Imola proved to be half a second slower in qualifying compared to the SF-24. In Miami, Ferrari struggled in the slow sections and the Monaco circuit is characterized by very slow corners such as Loews and Rascasse, not to mention other tight sections like the Port Chicane. Leclerc and Ferrari have always excelled in Monaco; managing to do so again in 2025 would be beyond an achievement.
Il Corriere della Sera also reports that Ferrari will be on track in Monaco with the 2024 rear wing. A repeat of Imola, meaning a sixth row in qualifying, would be disastrous for Ferrari’s hopes of a race comeback on a track where overtaking is impossible. The mandatory double pit stop will, however, give everyone more opportunities compared to last year’s long procession for Charles Leclerc, when the only uncertainty, the pit stop, was canceled out by the immediate red flag caused by the accident between Kevin Magnussen and Sergio Perez. Under the red flag, everyone changed tires and it was no longer necessary to stop during the race.
