Two weeks after the last race weekend, F1 is back on track: the seventh round of the season will take place in Imola. During media day, Lewis Hamilton explained what happened after the Miami GP, revealing a detail about Charles Leclerc that might suggest some cracks are forming in the Ferrari garage.
During the Miami GP, Ferrari experienced a moment of great confusion due to team orders. Lewis wanted to take Charles Leclerc’s position, as Charles was on a disadvantaged tyre compound. However, the swap came three laps later, by which point car 44’s tyres were no longer performing well. Charles Leclerc then regained the position.
During that phase of the race, the seven-time World Champion was vocal on team radio. At Imola, Lewis Hamilton revealed that he hadn’t spoken with Charles since Miami. “We only spoke yesterday, we were at the factory. With the engineers and the rest of the team staff, though, there was time to talk.”

Speaking to the media, Lewis Hamilton also elaborated on his relationship with John Elkann, Ferrari’s chairman. Both were spotted at the Met Gala in New York, but the British driver revealed there was no major conversation between them.
“We saw each other for 15 seconds. While I was at the top of the stairs welcoming guests to the event, John suddenly appeared in front of me and greeted me.” Car number 44’s driver then clarified that his relationship with Elkann is excellent. “We’re in touch almost every day. He’s a true racing enthusiast and wants to win as much as anyone else.”
