Cadillac is getting closer and closer to its first season in F1, and consequently, the search for drivers is intensifying, with a Ferrari driver ending up on the list of candidates. The team, which will enter F1 from the 2026 season, has not yet found its two drivers to inaugurate its debut in the top category.
Many rumors have circulated in the paddock about possible drivers, including Daniel Ricciardo. However, it appears that at present the drivers who are having conversations and with whom contacts are being established are two who had already been previously linked.
Cadillac picks from Ferrari and wants a former Red Bull driver
Sergio Perez and Zhou Guanyu are reportedly the two currently closest to securing a seat for next season. Sergio Perez, in fact, has made no secret of his desire to return to racing after being left without a seat at the end of the 2024 season. Red Bull, in fact, preferred Liam Lawson after an uninspiring 2024.
Of course, the fact that Lawson himself only lasted two races with the Austrian team speaks volumes about the perhaps overly harsh treatment reserved for the Mexican driver. Number 11 is looking for redemption, and Cadillac could be the right opportunity for him to return to racing among the elite of motorsport.
A slightly different (but not too different) story for Zhou. The Chinese driver arrived at Ferrari as a third driver after being dismissed by Stake and has so far had no opportunity to get on track. Of course, the Ferrari environment is enticing for all drivers, but never having a chance to race can eventually become frustrating. Thus, for Zhou too, the Cadillac project could represent a new turning point for his F1 career.
The title “F1 | Ferrari lends its driver to Cadillac: the teammate also emerges” sounds understandable, but it could be made more natural.
